Mangalore: ‘Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan 2010’ at Town Hall on Sep 25

Mangalore, Sep 21: Director General of All India radio (AIR), New Delhi, has designated AIR Mangalore to host the ‘Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan 2010’ at Town Hall on Friday September 25.

Speaking to the media at the AIR office, Sharada, programme executive and head of the office, said that the Sammelan will consist of Carnatic classical music concerts. 

“AIR Mangalore has got the opportunity to host this event after six years and the recordings of the concert will be broadcast on national hook-up later. Padmavathi Ananthagopalan, who is the recipient of various titles like ‘Gana Saraswathy Nada Kanal’ and the like, will give a ‘Veena’ recital”, she said. 

Padmavathi Ananthagopalan will be accompanied by Neyveli Narayanan on ‘Mridangam’ and Dr S Karthik on ‘Ghatam’. This programme will be followed by Carnatic vocal by Dr Subhashini Parthasarathy, who won the ‘Yuva Kala Bharati’ award.

Dr Subhashini Parthasarathy will be accompanied by R K Sriram Kumar on violin, K Arunprakash on Mridangam and Udupi S Shrikanth on ‘Ganjira’.

“Trichy K R Kumar, ace Ghatam artist, AIR Mangalore station, has been chosen by the directorate to perform in ‘Akashvani Sangeeth Sammelan’ at Calicut”, added Sharada.

“AIR India is also airing radio serial ‘Tala Maddele’ and guest interview programmes will also be included from Friday October 1 to grab the interest of the younger radio listeners”, she added.

AIR Mangalore chief technical officer Mohan Dev, programme executive Suryanarayan Bhat, and Concept Fernandes were present on the occasion.
