Mangalore: Three Thieves Held, Valuables Recovered

Mangalore, Sep 22: The policemen attached to Pandeshwar police station in the city arrested three people, accused of snatching chains from the necks of women, on Tuesday September 21. They also recovered valuables worth about Rs 1.7 lac, including a Maruti car, mobile sets and gold ornaments.

The arrested men have been identified as Yashraj (27), a resident of Mulihitlu Tailor Road in the city, Dhananjay Shetty (25) living at Raja Seat Road in Madikeri, and Asif Iqbal (24), a native of Mangalpady in Kasargod district. Cases had been registered in Pandeshwar police station against the three, accusing them of coming in a car and snatching away gold chains from the necks of women on Sturrock Road in Attavar a few days ago.

During questioning, the arrested thieves reportedly revealed to the policemen that they sought recourse to chain snatching, to be able to buy drugs, as they were addicted to intoxicants.

The arrests were made by a team headed by Pandeshwar police inspector, K Tilakchandra, and sub-inspector, K K Ramakrishna.
