Udupi: Prohibitory Orders in District for Three Days

Udupi, Sep 23: The district administration has issued prohibitory orders in the entire district for three days with effect from 6 am on September 24, in view of the expected pronouncement of verdict by Allahabad High Court in the 60 year-old Ayodha dispute case, said district deputy commissioner, P Hemalata. She said that the orders, being issued under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code, will remain in force till midnight on September 26.

“During the said period, no processions, victory celebrations, protests or observation of black day would be allowed. All liquor shops will remain closed for three days. Sale of crackers and other such items have been banned during this period,” she said, speaking after the conclusion of peace meeting held here on Wednesday September 22.

District superintendent of police (SP), Pravin Madhukar Pawar, said that in addition to the police personnel, services of Karnataka State Reserve Police, Home Guards, and District Armed Reserve Police will be availed to manage the situation. He added that emergency complaint units have been set up in 17 check posts along the district.  He requested the people to immediately inform the deputy commissioner, SP, assistant commissioner or policemen whenever they come across provocative rumours, SMS, etc. He said that non-bailable cases can be registered against the concerned in such cases.

The peace meeting was attended among others, by MLAs, K Raghupati Bhat and Gopal Bhandary,  MLC, Pratapchandra Shetty, zilla panchayat president, Gladys D’Almeida, municipal president, Kiran Kumar, additional deputy commissioner, Prabhakar, additional SP, Venkateshappa, zilla panchayat chief executive officer, N Rajshekhar, deputy SP, Jayant Shetty and many other officials, leaders of various organizations and other dignitaries.
