Udupi, Aug 14: The public in Parkala is still struggling with the national highway issue. It took a long time for land acquisition. Now though the land is acquired, work has not yet started. Vehicle owners and drivers are facing inconvenience due to this.

This inconvenience is caused because of the inordinate delay in the work of the national highway from Parkala main market area. It seems that the road is embedded in the potholes. Such a pathetic condition is that of the road here. For many years the work did not start as the land was not acquired. Now land acquisition work is over and four months ago all the road side shops were vacated. But the work stopped there itself.

Now as it is monsoon, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is not doing any work. So the commuters have to use the same muddy road with potholes for another four months at least.

The road of Parkala is completely filled with sludge water. Many two-wheeler riders have fallen after their vehicles skid. Locals are urging that the NHAI should at least repair the road for the time being.

We lack a leader who has the grit and gumption to get the task done. Very often, it is because of the brazen attitude of the leaders and people who ignore the public issues that lead to a disaster. Potholes are an ominous sign that shouldn't be ignored. It is disconcerting to see this. I hope the government has the wherewithal to repair the highway roads as well as the roads in places where it is extremely important before any disaster takes place.

The current Government boasts of constructing roads, toilets, houses. What about the gas connection...... ................... LPG? Must be all fake. The government also stopped people from enjoying cable TV pay for the channels. In the Olympics we did not have any telecast on our National channel even when the few events when Indian athletes/ teams participated. .... .

Who will maintain the roads? Making new roads is good but maintenance is done after someone dies in accidents or some big political event

Weird that our politicians don't have enough money to fund some reaserch a permanent solution of corrosive roads. We have so many prestigious colleges in the country but who cares about these things. Hopefully it changes in the future

It’s always this media that throws light on subjects Of negligence by those in authority. Whereas, the General public simply murmur and abuse the authority Instead of demanding and ensuring speedy remedial works from the Udupi Municipality and the PWD. Only payment of taxation has a deadline date not when The roads will be made good
