Udupi: DCIB Team Solves Old Case, Arrests Thief

Udupi, Sep 24: A team of  policemen, headed by district crime intelligence bureau police inspector, Ganesh M Hegde, arrested Nagaraj Balegar (22), son of the late Prabhakar Balegar, living in Gandhinagar, Bykady,Brahmavar in the district on September 22. Balegar is accused of breaking open the lock of Dr P C Sudhkar’s house near Kota Lions Hospital and stealing 80 grams of gold ornaments about five years ago, and stealing 24 grams of gold ornaments and cash from the house of K Srinivas Aithal living near the welcome arch of the city about four years ago. The team also succeeded in recovering all the valuables stolen by them. The value of the ornaments recovered has been put at Rs 1,05,000.


The police personnel said that the arrested man has named Muttappa alias Suresh (27), son of the late Prabhakar Balegar, who is presently lodged in the local jail, Sudarshan Balegar (25), son of Prabhakar Balegar, and Santosh Balegar, son of late Kasturi,  living in Talattamane, Madkeri, both of whom are missing, as his accomplices in the above thefts.

The operation was guided by district superintendent of police, Pravin Madhukar Pawar and additional superintendent of police, Venkateshappa, the policemen added.
