Kasargod, Sep 25: Renowned writer, lyricist and music director, Ramakrishna Manjeshwar (44) breathed his last on the night of Thursday September 23 at his residence in Kunjattur near Manjeshwar, due to cardiac arrest. Ramakrishna, who was popularly known as ‘Manjeshwar’, is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.
Ramakrishna, who had acquired degree in music from St Mary’s college of music in Chennai, and was adept at writing lyrics, composing music and music direction, had fine-tuned his talents under the guidance of renowned South Indian playback singer, P B Srinivas. He had started his profession in films through a Telugu movie, ‘Na Mogudu Naku Swandam’, directed by Dasari Narayan Rao.
Over 138 of the songs penned by him have been sung by K J Jesudas. Ramakrishna had written the lyrics for the first Kannada audio cassette brought out by Crescendo, a universal music company. Dr Rajkumar and Vani Jayaram are among the playback singers who lent their voices to his songs. He had authored songs for over 500 cassettes and CDs, and had introduced young singers like Swarnalata and Rameshchandra to movies.
He had provided literature for a documentary on pilgrimage to Shabarimala, made in association with BPL, under the music direction of K J Jesudas. He had won numerous awards, and had been felicitated by various organizations. Ramarksihna had also directed a short film, ‘Guttuda Bhoota’.
