Mangaluru, Aug 17: The couple, who ended life out of the apprehension of having been infected with coronavirus, have tested negative for the infection, informed sources.
The deceased, 40-year-old Ramesh and 35-year-old Guna R Suvarna, had left behind a death note citing coronavirus and a few other issues as the reason for the extreme step.
The couple ended their life at their apartment at Surathkal.
It may be recalled here, the couple had sent a voice message to police commissioner N Shashi Kumar about anxiety over the news items regarding Covid transmitted by the media and hence ending their lives. The police commissioner immediately had requested them not to take any hasty steps and also tried to find the couple. Meanwhile, police who located the place, found that the couple had already ended their lives.

Mangaluru, Aug 17: In a sad incident which happened at Baikampady in the city in the wee hours of Tuesday August 17, a man and his wife embraced death by hanging themselves, out of the apprehension of having been infected with coronavirus.
The deceased are identified as Ramesh (40) and Guna R Suvarna (35). They were residing in an apartment in Baikampady.
It is learnt that Ramesh's wife, Guna Suvarna, was diabetic. For the last one week, both of them exhibited symptoms of Covid19 infection. In a voice message sent through their mobile to the city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar, they said that they were overtaken by anxiety at the news items in this regard transmitted by the media, duly adding that because of this, they had decided to end their lives.
The commissioner immediately had requested them not to take any hasty steps. He also had requested through the media groups to help in the matter of finding the couple and saving their lives. The police in the meanwhile reached the apartments and found that both of them had already ended their lives.
It is stated in the death note that Guna had never borne a child due to some health issues and hence used to avoid mingling with people as they used to ask her about it.
“As decided by myself and my husband, we request Sharan Pumpwell and Sathyajith Surathkal to conduct our last rites as per Hindu rituals. We have kept Rs 1 lac for the same. I request police commissioner N Shashi Kumar, Sharan Pumpwell and Sathyajith Surathkal to cooperate in our last rites. The items at home should be distributed to the poor and it is of no use to our parents. We apologise to our house owners,” it was stated in the death note.
Surathkal police have registered the case.
