Mangaluru: DK grappling with challenge of reining in Covid

Mangaluru, Aug 18: Although the district administration here has been taking all measures to strictly implement the government guidelines, Dakshina Kannada (DK) district is ahead of others as far as number of new Covid cases is concerned. In a concerning development, a report of the experts recently said that out of a list of 20 top villages in the state with highest infection in the state, 11 are located in DK.

The district has been regularly witnessing over 300 new Covid infection cases per day. At the same time, the death rate continues to be high. These things have been giving sleepless nights to the district administration. Alarmed by these issues, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, and health minister Dr Sudhakar, during their recent visit to the district, had asked those in home isolation to be shifted to Covid care centres.

The 11 areas where the infection has continued to be high are Kandavara, Kalmakaru, Guthigar, Melantabettu, Ajjavar, Kondemoole, Todar, Kadaba, Kolnadu, Mangaluru rural and Konaje rural areas. Nire, Alpady, Nitte, Koteshwar, and Badagabettu in Udupi district also find themselves mentioned in the list of top 20 villages with highest infections.

Among towns, Beltangady, Ullal, Puttur, Kotekar and Moodbidri are considered to be high infection areas.

In the positivity rate too, Dakshina Kannada has the highest positivity rate of 4.08 percent. It also has the second highest active cases (3,595). The district takes the cake for having the highest people in home isolation (2,902). Udupi has 1,061 home isolation cases. The chief minister, observing that home isolations often result in spreading of the disease, had asked them to be shifted to Covid care centres. Even though the health department is trying to shift at least 50 percent of those on home isolation to Covid care centres, the people are not agreeable. The officials point out that those who have tested positive may themselves feel healthy but they can spread the disease to elders or people with other health complications. As many times the infected people go out without information, they can spread the infection, the doctors have warned.

Second wave is critical, like the second innings in cricket. The mutant virus is stronger, so vaccination is important. If it was introduced earlier less mortality would have occurred. Also people should have been advised to check for, and keep comorbiditirs under control. Immunoglobulin and Monoclonal antibodies ( MAB) , could have been used to prevent and treat Covid. If manufactured in India both would have been cheap. At present we are importing - Cipla from Roche at Rs 60,000 per dose , which many may not afford but still cheaper than hospitalization costs.

Go through 3 or 5 year daily or yearly count of deaths in all the countries, then wonder why they are same this year too! Then go through deaths by seasonal flu, heart attacks or strokes, cancers, kidney and liver failures, pneumonia and natural age related deaths disappeared from the data? Less than 10% deaths occurred with corona and not due to corona according to US CDC data. Hope you and many others always come up with same questions got the answer.

Naturopath BRC has healed lifestyle diseases with his diet plan while our alopathy failed and kept people in chronic state. For this reason the medical mafia wants to defame any cures for diabetes, BP, cholesterol and heart ailments to cancers and history is full of assassinations of them as they cannot patent natural foods and herbs they can't make money. BRC has openly challenged them to file cases against him so that he can produce his well documented cases and witnesses after getting healed reports too. I am fine, no Covid in any family member, all fully vaccinated. I have not remained absent for a single day in school, college, medical college and professional life. Though an allopath, I am not against any "pathy", whatever helps do it with full confidence. I have not taken any curative ( taken only prophylactic-preventive) medicines, allopathy, homeopathy,naturopathy, unani or Ayurveda. I do not do yoga. God has been kind to me maybe because I do not go to any religious place for worship, I thank God twice a day for all that he has done. My prescription paper was so small that I could not have prescribed more than 2 medicines. I've relied on history,signs and symptoms- pathology tests were a rarity.I have not got a blood test for myself all my life, I performed and advised surgery only if absolutely necessary.I am a senior citizen now retired but not tired. I believe Be Happy Be Healthy, by thinking positive, our body releases endorphins which take care of most of the problems ( except created by politicians, ) The first Covid virus - also known as the wild virus should have been allowed to propagate naturally without lockdown, mask sanitizers social distancing etc. It was a mild virus and would cause problems in people having obvious or hidden comorbidity, where more attention should have been given to treat comorbidity rather that the virus. I was among the first ( not the only person) in the world ( 17 Feb 2020) , to suggest manufacturer of vaccine, immunoglobulin and monoclonal antibodies. I had written to our PM and after a month to other world leaders. I have a letter of appreciation from Emmanuel Macron(France) and ex president US ,Mr Trump. I worked on it free of charge without expecting any returns or favor.

DK Administration needs to concentrate more on rural areas.. There are many having who are suffering from respiratory tract infection, flu like symptoms. Many just go to thier family physicians or local Practitioners. Local clinicians need to test these people for Covid. Admistrstion is only concentrating on the borders, Kerala Maharashtra travellers.. Its rewuired of course. But testing needs to be done for suspected patients and thier primary contacts. Can't blame the common people. They need to go out for thier daily bread.. But proper guidance and help is required for these people. Hope Dk turns its at

Yes, we are ready to serve as volunteers should our state govt lets NICE team to set up their camp in Mangalore.
