Unclear of impact Rahul Gandhi creating on people's mind: Deve Gowda

Bengaluru, Aug 22 (IANS): Janata Dal-S supremo and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda on Sunday said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was raising people's issues but it is still not clear how much impact it was creating on the minds of the people.

Addressing a press conference here, he said: "I do not want to talk lightly about (Rahul) Gandhi or anyone. He is still a young leader and is fighting for people's causes but still has a long way to go."

Noting that Gandhi took out a bicycle rally to drive home the point of rising fuel prices, he said that it was still not very clear how people in the country viewed his efforsts.

Deve Gowda also said that the opposition parties across the country are reduced to state level entities and even talk of their regrouping to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi is still in a very nascent stage.

"In politics, no one can confine anyone... it is not possible for Modi to confine the opposition neither the opposition can do it to him. What best we can do is to reach out, convey our views to people effectively," he said.

On the logjam in Parliament in the Monsoon session, the former Prime Minister said he was not allowed to speak due to the ruckus by members of both ruling and opposition parties which resulted in near washout of the session.

"I have not seen anything like this in my 30 years as a parliamentarian. I am sickened with the behaviour of both ruling as well as the members of the opposition as some members even danced on the table in the well of the house. In my 30 years as a parliamentarian, I was never witness to such unruly behaviour," he said.

He added that such behaviour was not good for society because it "showed the degeneration of democratic values" and "was an insult to the great people who fought for the freedom of the country".

Mr Devegowda is an opportunist who cannot be trusted. He is a master in breaking opposition unity for selfish gains. To catapult his son to power he destroyed the secular fabric of Karnataka politics. By making such a statement his intention needs to be probed in the light of his assurance that he will support the BJP Government of Mr Bommai in the case of trouble.

As far as K'Nataka is concerned, CONgress is finished and its "Leaders" are busy in digging own graves. DG and Family owned JDS is still popular as a regional outfit in South K'Nataka, Mysuru, Mandya regions. Its better that remaining CONgress immediately merge into JDS as soon as possible to be a stronger threat to BJP in state.

Mr. Develop Gowda is an opportunist, his instincts tell him that the future of himself , his sons and grandsons are directly proportional to those who wield power at the center. JD-S won’t get double digit votes in Karnataka, the fence sitter is now making statements that are seen to be politically correct, which will ensure that the ill gotten wealth of the self proclaimed humble farmer will not be investigated now or in the future.

congress had minorities and sc, bc, obc vote bank... sc, bc, obc votebank driven by self interest, they are with any party which is capable of giving them mla, minister positions... they are not bothered abt ideology... BJP weaned these people away through hatred / fear of minorities+pakistan... this section will stick to bjp as long as bjp is in power... now only force which can take on bjp is regional language / caste power... tn, kl, mh, wb, telngana, ap, odisha, punjab etc. etc. if opposition can unite under leadership of didi, sharad pawar and udhav thakeray, ಮೋ ನ may have to pack off...

Rahul gandhi is not serious about his profession ! he just deliver the monologues without any spirit ! People cant believe in him. Also on a serious note! Congress partially evolved with that particular community which may influence the existence of terror outfits in India and damage the fabric of "UNITY IN DIVERSITY" which cant be ruled out !!

Gurka Mangalore ,What Ajja (Deve Gowda)says is right. At present noone is there who really has the power to simply hau on the table with a faust and say which way one has to go,or do.Everyone wants the power.but not concrete.Rahul Gandhi is not made for Politic like his sister or his grand mother Indira. He never wanted to enter in Politic. Now he is being pushed in it to save the honour of family.whether he studied Politic and Economy I dont know. But his sister is a Power lady .whatever they say will be now not accepted or dont have any support. All are back of money so left Congress and changed side .Modi promised many things to people so people too were mesmerized by his talk changed the side .Promises were not fulfilled. Many were due to Hindu religion, wanted a Ram Mandir ,he promised to do .Now money for Ram Mandir poured in ,where this money is gone really noone know.Everybody collected it .where is the money from floor relief?15 lacs from schwitzerland is a night mare.where is PM Modi?

Rahul Gandhi is not as bad or dumb as people perceive him. He is educated, intelligent enough and is well informed. The ruling party is trying their best to show him in poor light and joke about him thru memes and media but they know very well that he is relevant. He points out when they are wrong and guides them on various potential issues well in advance but they do not want to admit as it’s a matter of prestige. At the end they they do exactly as he has warned or predicted. This is called politics and mudslinging is common.

What he said is 💯 right. If truthful efforts lead to new dimensions, discoveries or inventions, it's just because universal success comes to those who are true to the core. Truth has to be told. Leaders should be people's voice, people's cause. Not their own. Until then they won't get notable success.

Sir, a tall leader like you, what are the achievements? In such hostile and difficult times, rahul gandhi has been persistent. He may not have impact but when he goes to the grave, he would be remembered not as a puppy who wagged the tail, but as someone who forsaw issues that affect the country.

Following quote is general and applicable to both Congress and BJP. "Imaandari kitni bhi bewakoof ho ... aakhir ek din uski tarakki zaroor hoti hai ... aur baimaani kitni bhi chalaak ho ... ek din usse jail mein zaroor jana padta hai." (No matter how foolish honesty is ... one day it definitely advances ... and no matter how smart dishonesty is ... one day it definitely has to go to the jail). (From Movie Aankhen).

Deva Gouda is playing it safe and keeping the options of the JDS open for allying with both the Congress led opposition and the BJP. Opportunistic for a normal politician but unfortunate for a former Prime Minister. Even with the rukus in Parlament, he is avoiding taking a stand as to what was the cause for this unruly behaviour.
