Aug 23: DK reports 236 corona cases, Udupi adds 137; four deaths in twin districts

Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 23: Dakshina Kannada on Monday, Aug 23 reported 236 new coronavirus cases and three deaths, while Udupi registered 137 new cases and one death.

The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 1,08,193 out of which 2,886 are currently active.

As many as 384 patients were discharged from hospitals on Monday.

The district recorded three deaths due to coronavirus on Monday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 1,538.

The district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.

So far, the district administration has collected Rs 1,04,04,020 as fine in 85,501 incidents of mask violation.

Udupi

As per the district health bulletin, as many as 8,99,860 samples have been tested so far.

A total of 137 new cases were reported on Monday, taking the total number of cases to 72,927 out of which 1,581 are currently active.

A total of 98 patients were discharged from hospitals on Monday.

Out of 97 new patients, 122 are in home isolation while 15 are in Covid-designated hospitals.

Among the 137 cases, as many as 69 are symptomatic and 68 are asymptomatic.

While Udupi reported 95 new cases, Kundapur registered 24 and Karkala 18.

Coronavirus has claimed 441 lives in the district so far, including one on Monday. The person’s who died on Monday was from Udupi.

So far, 5,93,317 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 2,18,063 have received the second dose.

A total of 51 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the district so far, out of which, 4 are currently active.
