Former women commission official makes shocking remark on rape victim

Mysuru, Aug 26 (IANS): In a shocking statement, Karnataka State Women's Commission former chairperson Manjula Manasa has said she is "disgusted and ashamed" of a rape victim.

"Why did she have to come to such an isolated place at night? She is a management graduate. There has to be some responsibility from her side," she said.

Manasa was in the city when she learnt about the incident and had come to the crime spot.

Talking to the media, she was venting out ire on police department and the state Women's Commission for not registering the FIR even after almost a day after the gang-rape happened.

A college student from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly gang-raped near the foothills of the Chamundi Hills in Mysuru on Tuesday night. The accused had also assaulted the girl's male friend and both have been being admitted to the hospital.

The victim and her friend informed the hospital doctors that they were just attacked. The hospital authorities then informed the cops. When police checked with the victims, the incident had come to light.

Meanwhile, C.T.Ravi, BJP national general secretary said few incidents of crime does not reflect on the law and order situation in the entire state. The action has to be taken and culprits should be arrested soon, he maintained.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, stated that an FIR has been registered on the statement of the victim. "I have directed the DGP to arrest the miscreants immediately."

Araga Jnanendra, the Home Minister has formed a special team to deal with the gang-rape case under ADGP Pratap Reddy.

Police Commissioner of Mysuru Dr Chandra Gupta said details regarding the case could not be given at this point as it was a sensitive issue. "I have briefed about the incident to the Chief Minister and Home Minister," he stated.

"Currently, the victim is being treated at the hospital. We will see to it that in future, such incidents do not take place," he added.

It appears Manjula is related to the rapists family, this way she is covering up. She does not take responsibility to her position, instead blame the victims. Manjula, needs to resign and make way for a responsible person.

Whatever happened is disturbing. However, a "student" along with 'someone' in isolated place ? not acceptable. We see so many TV shows where in it is portrayed as if not having girl/boyfriend in college life is sin. Students must be aware of their roles.

Anybody can do anything .. There is no problem ..but be aware of the society you are around with .. Just imagine if you wear short dresses and go around taliban style people ..? Also Most men have animal instinct predominant in them .. They do not see love or beauty in a women but easily see the sexual side of women(That is how nature has coded men) .. So my suggestion to women who want to flaunt (nothing wrong) .. Please learn to defend yourself ..Learn karate as a bare minimum ..please do some proactive thinking when you venture out in the public . I am not against it ..Infact youngsters should enjoy life which includes responsible sex too without any guilt before or after the act.

This lady is out of her mind it looks like. First of all teach your boys to respect girls / women. Why should not girls and ladies go out at night, like the boys? More over she was with a male friend, that is her personal life, just like the boys have their freedom to live life. I urge you that " you teach your sons and boys and men to treat daughters, sisters and ladies with respect and dignity. They are not objects for men to use, abuse and misuse" . Unless our society changes it's mindset in treating boys with priorities and look down at girls, these things are likely to continue. My argument is also about these boys, what if it was your own sister and a lady from your own family? What if something like that happens to your own family girls or ladies someday? Will you allow it? These kind of statements from such senior women are unacceptable and gives more freedom to boys to continue the heinous behavior.

All the places at all times are not safe. People must excercise lot of caution for their own safety. It doesn't mean rapists are right, they must be given harshest punishment. No place in this world is 💯 safe. Some are relatively safer. Some people can never be corrected for don't fear punishment. Precautions alone can prevent themselvees from such risky vultures.

Why should I not feel that a Taliban system of justice should be served on the accused? Our society has come to the level that women should not go out alone nor should they go out with male friends. Whatever be the relationship between them, how does it affect us? It's their problem. The males can get away with anything, literally.

Rajen Gopi, Kolkata.... Existing law in India is sufficient. Unfortunately we are not enforcing law properly. Because, there are "so called" Human Rights and Liberals take sides of criminals and slow down the entire process. We need to resolve this. I condemn the act of rape, however it was equal responsibility of couple not to go such isolated place in the night for couple of reasons: 1. Normally anti socials will be under influence of some substances after evening. 2. Isolated places tempt these antisocials to do some unlawful acts. 3. They were just 2 and not in a group. No country can sure safety and security until unless each individual acts wisely.

There are several countries where a woman can go around safely in the night even when she is alone. It all depends on how humane and civilized the people of that country are and the laws in force there. I have been to several such places. In countries that have third class mentality against women, and when no proper and immediate punishment is behind served these kind of crimes happen.

Let us aspire to make our country crime free, rape free, hate free, corruption free, influence free, cadte free, religion free etc. Don't defend any speech, act which is anti humanity. Girls or boys, shoulder wear improper clothes, that is for anyone anywhere. To equate rape to cloths is idiotic. Similarly, don't defend 'men are like that', else say some men are lose, have no civility in their sight, though and actions.

Doesn't matter the time, we not allowed to harm anybody. Men allowed to be out in the night, why women cannot? Who made all these rules that Man allowed and women not allowed. If it turns out that the rapists are from Sanghi organization the police will book charges against victim accusing her of seduction. The recent thrashing of a minority in Madhya Pradesh is a classic example. First the Sanghis thrash the innocent person and then the Sanghi state police book fake charges. This has become a classic intimidation tool of the so called Secular India.

i would definitely recommend hang till death to the rapists who have carried this heinous act similar to what happened to NIrbhaya..only thing is that they have not killed her.. While saying so, we should also remember the saying "Be a Roman when you are in Rome'. We live in India and not any European or Americal nation where women are treated in par with men. I mean anybody can go anywhere any time..but Sanatana country is not safe still for women to loaf around after dark.. So it is advisable, as the woman in this article says for women folk to be mindful after night or go with a very nice six calibre gun and just shoot the son of bit...who try to molest or rape you Jai Sri Idli Vada Sambar

Our culture is ....these young men should saved and protected the girl if she was seen in the late hours and should have given advice to the couple and leave till home. This is not our culture to rape over and over and hide ????? Why laws are liberal for the boys belonging to influential people ? Why cant they castrate themselves if they cannot control ? If they found their sister...they will do the same? These rogues have lot of money so dont work and sit and eye who goes where ???
