Kadaba, Aug 26: It has come to light that a youth, native of Mysuru, who was working as a Dosa specialist in one of the hotels in the taluk cheated several people of the taluk and is absconding at present.
The fraudster is identified as Sharath Babu (30), a resident of Haranahalli of Mysuru. He joined as a Dosa specialist in one of the hotels that began functioning recently in the town. Within two months, the trickster developed friendships with many due to his knack of speaking and got cash and other things from them and went missing on Monday August 23.
It is said that Sharath had deceived many in Karkala also before arriving at Kadaba. A complaint is filed at Kadaba police station on the trickster of eloping with cash, gold, vehicle and electronic goods.
The accused took a laptop, colour TV and home theatre worth Rs 45,000 from an electronic shop of the town, goods worth Rs 13,000 from another electronic shop, Rs 6,500 cash from a person, who runs a service station near the hotel where the fraudster worked, Rs, 2,000 in cash from another person, Rs 35,000 cash from a vegetable vendor, Rs 60,000 cash from a grocery store owner and Rs 16,000 cash from his colleague. In addition, he took a golden chain from a person that belonged to someone else. Now he is absconding.
The trickster cheated many saying that he will procure white rice for them from Mysuru. Some others were taken for a ride in the pretext of providing employment. He also took money from many saying that he will return the same next day. With some others he took money promising them to pay back as soon as he got his salary.
The last thing he bought was a bike worth Rs two lac from a two wheeler showroom of Kadaba by making a down payment of Rs 45,000. It is also learnt that he attempted to buy a mobile worth Rs 40,000 on instalments from a mobile showroom in the town.
Sharath Babu used to live in a rented house near the hotel where he used to work and took many into confidence just by his oratory skills.
When the people who lost valuables and cash went to his home at Mysuru, his elderly father said that the fraudster had left home nine years ago.
Police have got information that the accused has disposed off his mobile SIM cards in Kadaba itself and is trying to get a new SIM. Police are on the lookout for him.
