Mangaluru: DC instructs against starting UG, PG classes till September 15

Mangaluru, Aug 27: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Rajendra K V, has issued directions against starting under graduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) classes in Dakshina Kannada district till September 15, in the light of the covid19 positivity rate continuing to be high at 2.4 percent. He asked the special officer in the department of collegiate education to hold classes online and not to undertake physical classes till then.

He was speaking after presiding over a meeting about the starting graduate and postgraduate classes in the background of the Covid19 infection. The meeting was held on Thursday August 26 at the auditorium of the deputy commissioner's office on the issue of starting physical classes for graduate and postgraduate courses.

"If the positivity rate in the district falls before September 15, a meeting with the officials of the department of collegiate education will be held again to discuss about the desirability of starting physical classes and to take suitable measures. The practical classes for the science students should be held batch-wise, duly following Covid guidelines. For students other than science, classes should be conducted only online," he said.

The deputy commissioner said that the teaching and non-teaching staff of the colleges should have compulsorily been vaccinated for covid19. He asked the college education officers to provide information about the staff who are yet to get vaccinated against the pandemic. He noted that in some rural areas, students are finding it hard to attend online classes because of network problem. He said that the district administration will find some alternatives for this problem and arrangements will be made to facilitate these students to attend classes.

Additional deputy commissioner Dr Prajna Ammembal, registrar of Mangalore University, Kishore K, collegiate education special officer, Jayakar Bhandary, Nitte University nodal officer, Dr Denesh, and other officials participated in the meeting.

    Online class but offlins exam's .. not an issue of writing exams or attending classes. We finale years are fed up of online classes back to back.. we had to finishe of our studies in the month of april 2021 .. and now .. oh my god . Take up some good decision please. Our juniors are in a phase to reach our position. And we are stuck here.. Thinking about the future. We are feeling sick . In a current scenario, everyone's dreams are shattered... Atleast keep online exams.. or instead of promoting juniors . Promote us .. as from 10-3rd year . We are writing exam and our base is stable. Moreover we are BHM STUDENTS. Practically we learn more .. I request DC , to consideration us finale years .. of each stream. As our 4years are heading more. Thank you

    Under graduate and Post graduate classes not to start but puc classes can be started. Most of Under graduate and post graduate students took first dose covid vaccine. For PUC students vaccination not yet started. Still they are asked to attend. In what way puc students are super human beings? Reason forwarded is second puc commerce and science subjects very difficult to teach online. Really? When B.Com, M.Com, B.Sc, M.Sc teaching can go online why not puc subjects. Is it wise to risk puc students life especially when corona not yet come under control?

    But some colleges under manglaore university have already started with offline classes and in the coming week will be having sessionals So I request the dc to kindly look into this n allow the students to get back to their native until further notice of offline classes

    Good proactive decision considering sharp rise in positive cases in Kerala and DK. Its also important to make Kerala students some time before coming to DK colleges instead of keep them on heels always.
