CM promises govt support for setting up modern jewellery park in state

Bengaluru, Aug 27: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has promised full support from the State Government for establishing a modern jewellery park in Karnataka and asked the Jewellery Association to submit a detailed proposal on the requirements.

Inaugurating the South Jewellery Show organised in Bengaluru Palace Grounds on Friday, he said the jewellery industry has the potential to provide jobs to a large section of skilled workforce besides generating lot of revenue.

The bullion trade is a big business all over the world and the country needs to compete in the international market, he said pointing out that the abolition of the Gold Control Act has opened up lot of opportunities and the jewellery trade has grown enormously.

Bommai said savings was part of Indian culture and felt the tendency to save among all sections of people was a boon to the jewellery industry. People like to own gold and other valuable jewellery as they know it is a big asset and help in times of financial difficulties by selling.

Jewellery trade is a traditional profession and urged jewellery makers to run their businesses in two or three-tier cities, he said.

Former MLC T A Saravana and Shrikant of Global Exhibition and Services were present in the function.

Satyasayi Hospital Opened

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, later, visited Chikkaballapur district and inaugurated the 300-bed Sri Satyasayi Sarala Memorial Hospital and Children’s Intensive Care Unit at Muddenahalli in the Satyasayi village.

The hospital is being established by the Prashanti Balamandir Trust.

Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Swamiji, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr K Sudhakar and BJP MP Bachchegowda were present in the function.
