State can't help Afghan students with visa extension: Ashwath Narayan

Mysuru, Sep 8 (IANS): Karnataka Minister for Higher Education, C.N. Ashwath Narayan, said on Tuesday that the state government cannot do anything with regard to the extension of visas for students from Afghanistan.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will take care of the matter. Whoever wants visa extension can file their applications. The ministry will take care of the matter," he said.

"We are not going to provide visa for a period of one month to anyone. The students will get visas for a stipulated time on the basis of academic requirements. We cannot interfere in these matters," Narayan said.

However, on a humanitarian ground, their other problems could be looked at, he added.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Mysuru University, G. Hemanth Kumar, had assured the Afghan atudents studying on the campus that the university will act as their caretaker and they can stay back on the campus until their visas expire.

"The images on television are horrible. We cannot control what is happening there in Afghanistan. But we will protect the students from Afghanistan studying here. Till the time they stay on the campus, the university will be their caretaker," Kumar had said.

As many as 92 students from Afghanistan are studying at the Mysuru University. Fifteen Afghan students are pursuing their PhD and MSc programmes in agriculture at the Dharwad Agricultural University. In addition, more than 300 Afghan students are enrolled in various courses in Bengaluru.

Bro !! Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand, are now extremely reluctant in granting immigrant status for refugees from turbulent Islamic nations.. they carry their medieval mindset and refuge to integrate into the social fabric of their adopted societies... This escalates into violent crimes against the host nation !!!!

Where these students will go at this hour of difficult situation in Afghanistan" Even Muslim countries avoid giving assailum to such people. once inside they create problem to the host country too. Let our government solve Indians problems like unemployment, population, medical and other issues on a priority basis. PAK is involved in creating such un rest and training Taliban army. All over the world this particular community is engaged in trouble making.

If "this particular community is indulging in troublemaking", what exactly are you doing in Kuwait? Incredible that this hatemonger would sit in Kuwait and spew hate speech against people belonging to other faiths here. And by the way, they aren't asking for asylum. They are already here, just asking for a visa extension. A little bit of comprehension might have helped

Afghan students are eligible to stay in the country until the completion of their studies. For those who have finished studies the government can consider granting short extension on humanitarian grounds after which the matter should be handed over to the UNHCR.

Even the oil rich GCC countries are reluctant to help them. Afghans working in these countries have started applying for political asylum through the UN.

Readers, the scenario, especially in Afghanistan is extremely distressing.... The departure of USA has emboldened these blood thirsty monsters to overwhelm their society, the sight of people falling from planes, is heart wrenching... India can only provide asylum to " Non Muslims " from Islamic nations, as we are already facing extreme radicalism within our borders. The Union government will scrutinize every individual case, before granting Visa to the citizens fleeing from these nations !!!!
