Udupi, Sep 9: People in the district are enthusiastic to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in pomp. A festive fervour has gripped the city amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Following the government's guidelines, arrangements have been made to celebrate the festival with decoration of flowers and illuminations. Several devotees are taking the idols of Ganesha to their residence for the worship during Ganesha Chaturthi.

The public places where the Ganesha idols are kept for the public worship are illuminated.

Vendors are selling various types of flowers for the festival. Last year, due to the pandemic, people did not come forward to celebrate the festival in a grand manner. But this time, people have come forward to celebrate the festival.

In the streets of Udupi city, vendors are seen selling sugarcane, Mude, vegetables, and flowers. Even the customers are flocking to buy the essential substances for the festival.

Amid the pandemic, several people were seen purchasing essential items by wearing masks. People from various districts have arrived in the district to sell flowers and other essential materials.

In Udupi, the administration has given permission for 436 Ganeshotsava samithis. There is no restriction on religious programmes, but the administration has restricted public gathering, cultural and entertainment programmes. The organisers have made arrangements of sanitisers at the venue of worship.

Though there are cases of Covid-19, the government has allowed people to celebrate Ganeshotsava in a simple manner. Hence, the public is expected to adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines issued by the government strictly, while celebrating the festival and also celebrate eco-friendly Ganeshotsava.
