Thane: Senior citizen duped Rs 6.25 lac by online fraudster

Mumbai, Sep13: On Sunday, a senior citizen was duped to the tune of Rs 6.25 lacs, by an online fraudster, when he was asked by the fraudster to recharge his mobile phone connection by transferring Rs 11 through a link so that his SIM card does not get blocked, the police reported saying.

An official said the online fraudster got access to the victim's phone when the victim was unable to recharge using the given link, called up the fraudster who then gave him another link. This allowed the fraudster to make an online payment of Rs 6.25 lacs.

Thane city police PRO Jaimala Wasave said  “The incident took place on July 26 this year, but a complaint was lodged with Kalwa police on  Saturday, and a case under IPC and Information Technology Act provision was registered”. He added by saying the investigation is underway but there has been no arrest so far.
