Governor Lashes out at BJP Govt, says Trust Vote 'Not Proper'
With Inputs from PTI
Bangalore, Oct 12 (IANS): The trust vote won by Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa Monday was not proper as there was no record of how many people had voted in favour of the trust vote and how many against, Governor H.R. Bhardwaj said Tuesday.
"The atmosphere of the house was vitiated by the presence of uniformed policemen and unauthorised people in the house," the governor said at a press conference at the Raj Bhavan.
He called the press conference soon after he sent a letter to Yeddyurappa asking him to prove his majority again before 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Bhardwaj criticised the BJP government for "indulging in corruption" and not doing any developmental work.
"I am fed up with this kind of corruption," he added.
After the trust vote on Monday, the Karnataka governor had in a report to New Delhi described the vote as a "farce" and recommended president's rule. Bhardwaj said he had looked into proceedings and sent the report after looking into records.
He also observed that this was not the first time that the Yeddyurappa government was in trouble and pointed that the Reddy brothers had "hijacked" 50 MLAs on an earlier occasion.
"The chief minister was in tears ... I had sympathy for him. I have fully cooperated with the chief minister on all matters," he said, rejecting Yeddyurappa's charge that he was not fair to his government.
The union cabinet meets Tuesday evening to discuss the issue.
BJP dubs Karnataka governor 'partial', demands his recall
New Delhi, Oct 12 (IANS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday lashed out against Karnataka Governor H.R. Bhardwaj, accusing him of using Raj Bhavan for "political purposes" and has demanded his recall.
"He has defied all norms of political impartiality and constitutionality," senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley told reporters here.
The BJP government in Karnataka has been in the thick of a crisis since 11 of the partymen, along with five Independents, rebelled against the leadership of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.
The chief minister won a confidence motion in the state assembly by voice vote amidst chaotic scenes Monday, but Governor Bhardwaj recommended President's rule in the state. The governor also gave Yeddyurappa a "fresh opportunity" to prove majority in the house again by Oct 14.
"He has allowed Raj Bhavan to be used for political purposes, for the purpose of destabilizing the government and horse-trading," said Jaitley.
He alleged that leaders of the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S), Congress and rebel members of the legislative assembly "who have defied the anti-defection law have been operating out of Raj Bhavan".
"All this indicates that the governor has completely lost his impartiality. He cannot be the custodian of the constitution in the state," Jaitley said, adding, "The central government must immediately recall the governor."
