Dalit family fined Rs 23,000 after their son enters temple

Koppal (Karnataka), Sep 21 (IANS): The parents of a Dalit boy were fined Rs 23,000 after their 2-year-old son entered a Hanuman temple to seek blessings of the god at Miyapura village near Hanumasagar in Koppal district of Karnataka.

The toddler was taken to the Hanuman temple by his father on his birthday. As Dalits here are not allowed inside the temple, they always prayed from outside standing in front of the temple.

The father wanted to pray to the god from outside along with his son. However, the toddler in excitement ran inside the temple and prayed to the god and came back. The incident tool place on September 4.

This became a big issue as upper caste villagers thought that the temple was desecrated as a Dalit boy had entered it. They held a meeting on September 11 and asked the parents to pay Rs 23,000 as fine which is going to be used to carry out purification rituals in the temple.

However, the district administration which came to know about the development has sent police, revenue and social welfare department officials to the village. The officers have conducted an awareness programme with regard to untouchability for all villagers.

The officers took members of the upper caste to task for imposing a fine on the Dalit boy's parents and let them off after warning that legal action will be initiated if they repeat this.

T. Sridhar, Superintendent of Police, Koppal, told IANS that he visited the spot. The culprits were admonished. They apologized to the father of the boy. Though the police went to the house of the victim to convince him to lodge a complaint, the community elders decided not to do so as it will breed animosity.

"The people from upper caste themselves opposed the action of the members of their own community and apologized to the Dalit boy's family," he explained.

Rita Madamji.... What I have stated is plain facts and does not need rocket science to decipher. You accept truth as it is and move on.Some needlessly harp over the obvious and lose their mental balance over it. NO NEED AT ALL. Though there are research papers to prove, it is obvious to the naked eye and to the knowledgeable as to what might have happened. I do not wish to go into the nitty gritty of these things now, nor do I question anybody's faith. It's your faith and belief that counts most and nothing else. Scriptures say ' See God in all snd Children first for they are Innocent ' and their mind never corrupted. Horrific to read this article and I wonder what sort of a temple or whatever that is...

One cannot brush things under the carpet. This is not an isolated incident, but keeps recurring time an again in various parts of the country. Not just visits to temples but honour killings when the families of self elevated any upper caste person happens to fall in love with the so called lower castes. Killings, stripping, parading, torture etc are common even in this day and age. The so called protectors of hindutva should look into these atrocities before pointing fingers at citizens who follow a faith other than their own, just for votes and power. If Hinduism is in danger then, it is because of these atrocities. Just remember that over 35% of the population is dalit and hinduism indeed will be in danger if these people are not accepted as part of ones own in actions and deeds and not just during voting and elections.

All Brahmin girls should be given in marriage to Dalits and Dalit girls to Brahmin boys and eradicate cast system. 100% Reservation in Government Jobs and in school/college admission should be given to inter cast children.

This is how we Indians were divided by the cunning invaders, we used this ploy to divide and rule us. UNITY IS AND SHOULD BE OUR STRENGTH. This is strictly not to hurt anybody. However, how did other religions come and thrive in India? Because of this only ! Conversions became very easy because of some stupid strictness and sub caste divisions. Otherwise where were other castes before invasion of our country?? There can never be Roman Catholics here and at least all in the coastal belt our are very own. No wonder I love all of them and they me ! Blood is thicker than water you know and commentators here I pray should know their roots correctly before commenting. Know the truth. I condemn the above act in no uncertain terms. They have found fault with a child? Here I remind all of the saying of Jesus which is close to my jeart.... Rita, Are you aware of the fact that dalits from hindu community who are converted to Christianity are still referred as Dalit Christians? They are made to sit on the last rows in the church? In one of the districts in Tamilnadu ( I can't recollect the exact district name), they are not even allowed inside regular churches. But these are one off incidences and I would not generalize.

As a catholic believers my parents always treated all human with respect and dignity. Even my mom offer them food as a family in our own family plates and allowed them to sit amongst us. Some of the. Were very old and afraid of locals to mingle with people because of untouchables. My many friends were Hindus and I always told them about my concern about treating th m human ways than differently. We are in 2021and we still hear this bulshit which is not tolerated at all. Very saddened to hear. God never discriminates anyone. These humans have hate towards others.
