Kadaba, Sep 29: Shivaraj, a policeman attached to Kadaba police station, who has been accused of repeatedly raping a girl with the promise of marrying her, and who has already been arrested relating to the case, stands suspended from service. He was produced in the court on Tuesday September 28.
Western range inspector general of police (IGP), Devajyoti Ray, said that Shivaraj has been booked under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He visited Kadaba police station on Tuesday in the light of the seriousness of the case, and questioned Shivaraj and other police personnel who are deemed to be close to him. He said that the current location of the affected girl and her mother have been traced.

District superintendent of police, Rishikesh Sonawane, said that preliminary investigation is under way and further steps will depend on the evidence collected. Assistant superintendents of police, Shivakumar Gunare and Gana P Kumar, and in-charge sub-inspector Kumar Kamble, were present.
Women activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad's Kadaba unit who met the IGP at the police station, urged him to get the constable married to the distressed girl so that she can lead a decent life. Puttur taluk panchayat former president, Pulasya Rai, Matru Shakti Kadaba unit president, Geeta Amai, former zilla panchayat president, Asha Thimmappa Gowda etc were present.
