Sri Rama Sena wants Karnataka govt to act on SC order curbing use of loudspeakers

Mangaluru, Sep 30 (IANS): At a time when the ruling BJP is heaving a sigh of relief after bringing a legislation to stop temple demolitions which had angered Hindu outfits and its own partymen in Karnataka, Sri Ram Sena has announced that it will launch a massive protest demanding action against the use of loudspeakers and mikes in the state.

Without naming 'Azaan', Sri Ram Sena warned that it will stage a protest if the Karnataka government does not take swift action against the use of loudspeakers and mikes in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court (SC) on noise pollution.

The Hindu organisation on Thursday demanded that the ruling BJP implement the SC guidelines against the use of loudspeakers and mikes between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Ananda Shetty Adyar, the Sri Ram Sena State Secretary, attacked the BJP government for demolishing temples using the pretext of the SC order.

The same SC pronounced an order banning noise pollution 21 years ago and the state government is not concerned about it, he said.

Without following the SC order announced 21 years ago, the BJP government is ready to implement the recent apex court order. The state government should strictly implement the guidelines by the apex court regarding noise pollution, the Sri Ram Sena leader added.

Despite the SC order, loudspeakers and mikes are used throughout the day and no action has been taken till now. The Sri Ram Sena will launch a massive protest in this matter, he warned.

"Let the government protect public interest in this regard," he said.

Yes, I also want Supreme Court to pass verdict to state govt. to strictly ban using loud speakers, mics from 9 pm to 6 am. Very important to note, not just Masjids, it should be applied to all religion, even hours long disturbing Bajan's songs in Bajan mandir, and mutts, temples.....

I fully support this campaign, whichever organization is doing it. Places of worship are using the outdated cone type loud speakers to sound as loud as possible. This is not out of devotion, but to frighten and subjugate other people. People with weak backbone are keeping quiet because they dont have the courage to protest. As far as i can remember, government has already banned the use of cone speakers, but religious places are still using it out of arrogance. Police have full power to stop use of loud speakers, but they can take action only when people complain.

The police never take action as per the Noise Polln Rules 2000. Even if they ever take any action as per their whims and fancies, they do so selectively. I have made dozens of complaints only and only using official means. Even lawyers are not taking up such cases.

Good thing that you have complained. It is only when people complain that police are forced to act. A place of worship near our house has been using cone speakers to blare prayers middle of the night. One night i stopped a patrolling police car and explained to them how difficult it is to sleep when speaker is being played so loudly. They were polite and understood my concerns. A couple of days later the speaker stopped playing at night and even during the day they reduced the volume. So the police do take action wherever is possible for them. Only problem is with the people who keep quiet thinking it is not my problem.

Ravish P.K., Mangalore, you say, Yes, Govt of Karnataka should curb the use of loudspeakers and also Ganapathi Bhajans after 10 pm. No loudspeakers , no bhajans between 10 pm to 6 am. Govt should impliment this rule immediately.. Please add, church bells too. This is an open invitation to all Senes to come together and ban all these unnecessary noise. May be after MLA, MP vote. In any case, our gods got used to the silence due to Covid-19. Otherwise we thought they were hungry and thirsty to be worshipped with lot of offerings and noise.

First ask your Government to stop horning buses and vehicles who creating noise pollution in our city. So much venom now filled within us so that people started to each other. I remember earlier there was no clocks in every house and people used to guess the time with Azzan. Church bells and suprabhatham in temple. Or people used to guess the train whistle from long distance. But now cannot imagine. We are bringing our disaster ourselves.
