Mangaluru: 'Wrap the Scrap' cleanliness drive held by ICYM Kinnigoli deanery

Mangaluru, Oct 4: On October 2, as the entire nation celebrated the 152nd birth anniversary of the finest freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi, ICYM Kinnigoli deanery in respect of the initiative proposed by ICYM Mangalore diocese uplifting the slogan wrap the scrap pledged to clean the scrap littered around Sasihithlu Beach. The drive began at 8:45 am under the guidance of Fr William Dsouza - director, Carolin Chris D'souza - president and Criston Dsouza - secretary of ICYM Kinnigoli deanery.

All the units of the deanery including Kinnigoli, Kirem, Pakshikere, Neerude, Niddodi and Balkunje were a part of this massive drive which summed up to 60 members of the deanery as a whole. They were able to clear the trash littered on a major part of the coast in this approximately 2 hour’s cleanliness drive. The explicit hardwork, time and patience that the members put in this drive under the supervision of their mentors deserves all the credit and appreciation. The trash thus collected by them in this course of time was handed over to the waste collectors of the vicinity by the end of the drive.

Thus, a regular national holiday served to persuade the emerging youths of Kinnigoli deanery to step out of their houses to serve the society delivering a message to not be a litter bag and keep the community clean from all kind of waste.
