Mangaluru: Dr Kiran Kumar elected president of Indian Psychiatry Society Karnataka chapter

Mangaluru, Oct 10: Dr P K Kiran Kumar, professor and former head of the department of psychiatry, A J Institute of Medical Sciences here, has been elected president of Indian Psychiatry Society Karnataka chapter for the year 2021-22. The election was held during KANCIPS-21, the annual conference of IPS-KC at Father Muller Medical College, Mangaluru.

 

Dr Kiran received his MBBS degree from the prestigious KMC, Mangaluru and went on to complete his MD degree in psychiatry at KMC, Manipal. He is practising psychiatry for the past 22 years and is also the consultant psychiatrist at his own establishment A K Neuropsychiatry and Counseling Center, Highland and Maryhill.

Dr Kiran has been doing community service by conducting various mental health camps in and around Mangaluru.

He is also the medical director of Nalapad Rehabilitation Centre, Kasargod and Kiran Rehabilitation, Mangaluru.

Dr P K Kiran Kumar belongs to the renowned cloth merchant family of Dakshina Kannada, P K Dooja Poojari textiles.

As the president of IPS-KC, Dr Kiran aims at conducting mental health awareness programs and implementation of helpline facilities in order to ensure and provide easy accessibility of mental health care to remote areas of every district of Karnataka state.

He also intends to break the stigma associated with mental health illness in collaboration with the mass media.
