Kundapur, Oct 13: Deputy commissioner (DC) Kurma Rao, and Byndoor tahsildar Shobhalaxmi, acted swiftly to proceed against those who have illegally encroached Gomala (grazing land) in Areshiroor junction in Golihole village where a building was built with the help of fake documents and power connection was obtained.

After coming to know of the encroachment, the tahsildar had deputed the village accountant to do spot inspection.

Areshiroor is located by the side of the state highway leading to Byndoor and Kollur where connecting roads to several villages are available. As many as 9.29 acres of land in survey No. 329 had been set aside there as pasture land. Out of this, five acre land was given to Kollur Mookambika high school. Five cents of land was earmarked for a primary health centre, five cents for weekly market, and seven cents for a private hotel. The balance of 4.12 acres of land is said to have been encroached.

Areshiroor is fast developing into a downtown where APMC, health centre, veterinary hospital etc are needed. The locals, who noted that the land commands high value in the market, have demanded to use the same for public convenience by the government instead of disposing it off.

The gram panchayat failed to evince interest to get the encroachment cleared. The locals want to know why the panchayat is silent even though building, power connection and commercial licence were obtained illegally. Several organizations have warned of agitation if the encroached land is not taken back by the government.

DC Kurma Rao said that the Byndoor tahsildar has been asked to check about the irregularities if any and file a report. He said that the revenue department will be asked to conduct a survey and evict encroachers if any. He added that if the building was built and power connection was obtained illegally and those who provided fake documents will face action.
