Beltangady, Oct 15: A police head constable deployed at Punjalkatte station was killed in a road accident in Neralakatte near Punjalkatte here on Friday October 15.

The deceased is identified as Aboobakar (48). The accident took place between a bike and scooter.

The incident took place at Neralakatte near Moorje in Pilathabettu. Aboobakar (48), a resident of Marodi in Venoor was returning from a function in Vamadapadavu.

Another rider who was in the scooter was identified as Durgaprasad of Irvathur. He was also severely injured in the accident. He was admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru. It is said that Aboobakar had been to a function in Vamadapadavu along with colleagues. Other colleagues of Aboobakar returned in a jeep, while Aboobakar returned on his bike. His colleagues who were coming in a jeep, behind him, rushed the injured immediately to the hospital. Unfortunately, Aboobakar breathed his last on the way to the hospital.

Initially, Aboobakar was taken to Primary Health Center in Punjalkatte for treatment. But, the hospital was locked. The doctor was on leave. There were no other staff in the hospital. While Aboobakar was shifted to Bantwal government hospital, he breathed his last on the way. Locals have expressed outrage as there were no staff in the government hospital at Punjalkatte primary health center. This is an example of irresponsibility of Punjalkatte government hospital, they alleged. They also stated that even in the past people suffered and patients were shifted to various other hospitals as there were no doctors and staff available at the hospital.

Aboobakar is survived by three children and a wife.
