Demonetisation shock: Visually impaired person learns life savings worthless

Chennai, Oct 20 (IANS): Chinnakannu, a visually challenged destitute survives on alms from the people of Chinnagoundanar village in Pavakkai panchayat of Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu.

After surviving on alms all these years, the 65-year-old got the shock of his life when a local person, Kannayian, who mends footwear, told him that the currency in his possession was worthless as the Government has demonetised it.

He immediately rushed to the Krishnagiri district collectorate and filed an application before the district collector to help him get the notes exchanged. In the application, Chinnakannu informed the district collector that he did not have any knowledge of the demonetisation and that he had nobody to help him.

The visually impaired person requested the collector to replace his Rs 65000 savings with new currency notes as he did not have any other money except for Rs 300.

The collector forwarded his request to the District Revenue Officer who directed him to the district lead bank. The lead bank forwarded his request to the Reserve Bank of India.

The Reserve Bank had permitted the exchange of cash only up to March 31, 2017. The district collector has arranged for a pension under the elderly person quota for Chinnakannu.

Demonetisation was a futile exercise. It was help from the Govt to change black money to white. How then do we explain about more than 98% of the money coming back to circulation?. What a blooper and the worst thing is only the middle class and the poor suffered as usual. What a blooper and then we saw a historic crash of the G.D.P .

During congress rule there were many demonitisations but nobody felt the change and no one was affected and there were no queues to exchange currency in front of the banks because it was well planned, gradual and RBI put out new notes in circulation as it received old ones. BJP’s demonitisation had only one motive in mind to attack opposition’s reserves and to render them weak. This combined with badly designed GST has destroyed the economy of the whole nation which is apparent in negative GDP, highest unemployment, stagnant exports and banks running in loss so been merged. All this makes india becoming a $5 tr economy like dog chasing its tail till eternity.

My family member had safely kept about 40000rs in a bag for a long time and forgot about it. Eventually after 2 to 3 years he finds it. Wat can he do? Its all gone for a waste. Every rupee we save painstakingly and this fellow modi has made them all worthless. Andd now he doesnt even utter the word demonetisation knowing its a complete failure. Still some educated bhakths support him only becoz of hatred inside
