Mangaluru: CCB police raid pub after people complain about noise

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Oct 24: Acting on the complaint from public, the city crime brance (CCB) police on the night of Saturday October 23 raided a pub located on MG Road here.

It is alleged that the pub was kept open beyond the stipulated hours. High decibel sound system was used for playing music which was creating nuisance to residents living nearby.

Public complained that the customers of the pub, in a drunken stupor, were behaving in an "indecent" manner with the students walking on streets and devotees of a temple that is situated very close to the pub.

Sound system and public address system used in the pub were confiscated by the police and further investigation is on.

The raid was conducted by a team led by CCB inspector Mahesh Prasad and Barke police station inspector Jyotirlinga. A case under Excise Act, Karnataka Police Act and Epidemic Act has been registered against the Pub management.

Wow, our police is so prompt in their action. Will all pubs now go silent? Poor guy did not water the right hole and popular watering hole is now under trouble. Why can't we protest against corruption and are taking everything in stride? If it was disturbing nearby residents, how did he get the license to operate it in the first place? Operating cost of a pub is high because if you are seen as making lot of money, there are many who want to enrich themselves by doing nothing. That I thought was communism and also how mafia operates.

Now, if you see there were so many lounge bars which opened and got shut down in few months but nothing effected liquid lounge. If you can understand what i am actually trying to say is, no matter what so ever nothing will happen to liquid lounge bar but anyone growing above their level will be taken into such act. real kujuma kodial, dear kujuma, you forget also one thing .even in democratic country certain rules also to followed not llike a cow roam about and sleep somewhere.People too should also act accordingly. Not simply park vehicles two wheelers on foot path.I find govt or MCC ,should not give permission to open a Bar restaurant etc,etc near a temple or any religious places ,because it causes only nuisence.Otherwise later such problems arrive. Not all people act respectfull. When they give some money to Police ,also problems to people will not disappear.First is MCC s failure to give permission to open Bar in this place.Pub owner too must also see that rules are followed. When they say students means ,not necessarily students of day school but night schools or private schools ,?or workers?

I am a teetotaler, I do not visit pubs and bars, and I sleep early, but after reading the news , few questions come to my mind I believe this place is at Kayarmanj, Ballalbag-this is not a residential area- it is MG road, a commercial area. It is mentioned that customers were behaving indecently with students on the road- how come there are "students" on the road at midnight? The date on the CCTV footage looks like 16-10-2021 - ( not 23-10-2021) could be a representational image?

Surprising to know that neither BD's nor moral police and anti-Western culture activists did not bother to go and warn the Pub and the customers. Some of immoral police could have been sitting in the Pub after completing their day time duty! When fun and enjoyment is freely available they forget their duty.

It is time for the police authorities to ask every sound system providers and operators to come to their respective stations and recieve copy of the rules and regulations in operating time and the sound levels they shouldn't violate and if possible register their addresses with them. In cases they are found violation they must confiscate their equipment and cancel their licenses for a limited time. If these are not implemented then we will have sleepless nights whenever our neighbours throw a party in their homes and neighbours just don't want to complain against them as they don't want to hurt their neighbours but they flaunt their money power thereby violating others right to have a peaceful nights rest.

@ Shankar, Mangaluru - I fully agree with you in this regard but they should maintain cut of time also. Those days of 70's Quality Bar & Cabaret used to play loud music and entertainment. (of course licensed I believe) it was in a close proximity for the people living in heart of the City. For love birds at market road area Red Rose (Komals) live music/juke box (1 rupee coin) great enjoyment with some duplicate film stars entertaining the customers. (of course without any interruption of moral police !

Pubs are an inseparable part of a cosmopolitan city. If there no places or options to spend money, a city will never grow. It would be like earlier times, we had infosys, emphasis, MRPL, MCF and all stuff in Mangalore, but Friday night we used to travel to bangalore to spend money on the weekends! Do not blame for the existence of that pub, but please ensure they make it sound proof.

The headline to this news report is welcome. But the reason of the raid seems to be from other motives. This is evident from the fact that the Noise Pollution Rules 2000 (sec.15 of the Env. Protection Act 1986) has not been applied. That too, I imagine, for the CCB to be involved is like setting the tiger upon the rat while the cat turns a blind eye. How shameless the agencies are may be gauged from the following: In WP 6038/2019 , Defence colony residents association Vs the State of Karnataka; the Hon'ble Karnataka High Court has observed :Quote "The manner in which every order passed by this Court is being treated by the State Government and the manner in which the compliance reports are being filed show that there is a lot of reluctance on the part of the State Government to implement the provisions of the Noise Pollution ...Rules 2000 .. So for nineteen years, there is a complete failure of the State Government to implement the said Rules of 2000..... Attention of the Director General of Police is invited to the fact that instead of taking action for committing deliberate breach of the order of this Court, we are giving an opportunity to the State Government to comply with the orders. "Unquote //// It may be noted that the right of liberty of those who wish to visit bars and pubs is as sacrosanct as the right of those who do not wish to be disturbed by noise. Residential areas must be separated from commercial and industrial areas. This is where town planning comes in. The problem is that in India planning is anathema to us as a society - we do first and then plan.

Dear Sir, You are right , the US police has got militarized - we can choose the good parts and reject the bad - George Floyd's killers were not given a "clean chit" - there were 2 others in the car with Floyd, the police did not touch them - they cooperated fully - the videos from the shop and body cam of all officers were made public - IMHO that Floyd did not cooperate with the officers when they asked him to come out of the car - they had no option but to use force - where they went wrong has already been dealt with by the justice system.
