Permission for petty shops: Chaos prevails in Udupi CMC

Udupi, Oct 29: Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) meeting witnessed chaos after ruling and opposition councillors engaged in a verbal spat over permitting petty shops in the city on Friday October 29.

Opposition leader in the council, Ramesh Kanchan opposed providing permission for petty shops in parking area of Udupi Sri Krishna Math.

"Petty shops have been allowed even though it is a private property," he said.

Congress councillor Amrurtha Krishnamurthy said that though it is private property, CMC is looking after works of road and street lights. The verbal spat between the ruling and opposition continued in the council.

Ramesh Kanchan also alleged that former councillors are directing officials. "In this way, they are trying to grab the power of president," he alleged.

Meanwhile, standing committee member Girish Kanchan also demanded to name the 'former councillors'.
