Mangaluru, Oct 31: Rich tributes were paid to the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary by the district Congress committee here on Sunday, October 31.
In a programme that was held in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue near Town Hall, district Congress president Harish Kumar recalled the contribution made by the former PM for the development of India.
"Indira Gandhi, who laid an important milestone in the development of the nation through the 20-point programme, was appreciated even by leaders of opposition as an embodiment of Durga. However, today the descendants of those who killed Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi are ridiculing even the death anniversary of such a great leader of this country. What can we expect from those who oppose the Constitution of the country and who have said that they have assumed power in order to change the Constitution of India?" Harish Kumar said.
"While the citizens of the country are burdened with issues like inflation and unemployment, those who politicize their personal matters are selling the assets of the country. During the UPA regime fuel was stored in bunkers for use during war or emergency time. The BJP government is saying that they have made Rs 5,000 crore profit by selling that oil reserve," he said.
