Daijiworld Udupi’s ‘Rangina Rangoli’ competition results announced

Udupi, Nov 4: Ananya A Shetty emerged as the winner of ‘Rangina Rangoli 2021’ organized by Daijiworld Udupi and Kishoo Enterprises in association with St Mary's English Medium School (CBSE), Kannarpady. Adithi Udupi and Akshatha Kamath won the second and third prizes respectively.

Rangina Rangoli 2021, a rangoli making competition was held on the occasion of Deepavali by Daijiworld Udupi, Kishoo Enterprises in association with St Mary's English Medium School (CBSE). The event was held recently in St. Mary's English Medium School (CBSE), Kannarpady.

The first, second and third prize winners were awarded with cash prizes of Rs 5,000, Rs 4,000, and Rs 3,000 respectively along with trophy and certificates.

Sia Salian Malpe, Sumithra Bhat Parkala and Geetha Shenoy Belman won the consolation prizes and were awarded Rs 1,000 cash prizes along with certificates.

Ramesh Kanchan, councilor, Udupi CMC and Fr Johnson Sequeira, principal, St Mary's English Medium School (CBSE) inaugurated the event by pouring different colors to a bowl signifying the rangoli making. Kevin Rodrigues, manager Daijiworld Udupi, Roopa Mascarenhas, programme coordinator and staffs of Daijiworld Udupi accompanied.

Addressing the gathering, Ramesh Kanchan said, "This is a very meaningful programme. In the speed of modernization, we are forgetting few of our traditions. Rangoli plays an important role in Hindu tradition and culture. We have seen women making rangoli outside the houses every morning. But in recent times, it has gradually disappeared. I am happy to note that Daijiworld Udupi and St Mary's English Medium School (CBSE) has made an effort to preserve and promote this age old tradition.”

Speaking on the occasion Fr Johnson Sequeira, principal, St Mary's English Medium School (CBSE) said, "Deepavali is a festival of light. It brings joy and happiness in our lives. Rangoli gives us an important lesson in life. As many different colors will be used for making a beautiful rangoli art, in the same way, during this festive season, let us spread good vibes among others in this society. Let us participate in this competition as a family.”

As many as 66 participants from various places of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district took part in the competition.

Poornima Janardhan, renowned poetess and artist and Pournami Prem Shetty, artist, were the judges for the competition.

The valedictory programme was held soon after the completion of the judgment. Maxim Saldhanha, proprietor World of Titan Udupi, Cotton King and business associate of Tanishq Jewellers and Prem Prasad Shetty, founder, Sanchalan Trust, Unnati Career Academy were the chief guests for the valedictory ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Prem Prasad Shetty, said, "The programme has made an effort to identify many talented children and youths. I am an alumnus of St Mary's English Medium School. It is a great pleasure to visit the campus after many long years.”

Addressing the gathering, Maxim Saldanha said, "I wish good luck to all the participants and Daijiworld Udupi for taking an effort to preserve this age old traditional art form namely, Rangoli. Let Deepavali bring happiness and joy among everyone.”

Sharing the experience of judging the competition, Poornima Janardhan said, "Festival of Deepavali completes with the making of beautiful rangolis. All the participants have taken great efforts in making the rangolis. We have graded them based on creativity, output and uniqueness. Those who win prizes should continue to take part in such competition in upcoming days. Others also should not lose hope and continue to put maximum efforts to win competitions.”

Pournami Prem Shetty said, "Women express their inner feelings through the rangolis. These traditional art forms are disappearing. I thank Daijiworld Udupi for organizing such an amazing event. Everyone has taken extreme efforts in making the rangoli.”

The dignitaries distributed the prizes for the winners.

Kevin Rodrigues, manager, Daijiworld Udupi welcomed the gathering. Merlyn D'Cruz rendered the vote of thanks. Pragathi Puthran compered the programme. Staff of Daijiworld Udupi, family members of participants were present on the occasion.
