Harekala Hajabba receives coveted civilian honour Padma Shri from President

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi (SP)

New Delhi, Nov 8: Harekala Hajabba, received the 'Padma Shri' civilian honour from the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, on Monday November 8 at New Delhi.

Hajabba along with his nephew went to Delhi. He reached New Delhi on Sunday November 7 and stayed at Hotel Asoka. Their trip was facilitated through the arrangements made by Dakshina Kannada district administration and Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.

Hajabba was chosen for the honour in the light of the contributions he made to the education sector.

Hajabba, who sold oranges, created a revolution in the field of education by opening a school in his native place, Harekala, from his savings, and contributing to its growth year after year. The Padma Shri award for Hajabba had been announced on January 25, 2020, but the function had not been held because of Covid situation.

The awards ceremony was held at the Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan.

At a time when peoples’ hard earned money is wasted in building statues, temples, central vista or buying special planes for the PM, common man is forced to use his earnings to meet the basic necessities of life, like Hajabba Sir, who spent his meagre earnings in building a school for his village. Although we appreciate him for his selfless service, it is a slap on the government which could not build a school in his village.

Congratulations to the simple, humble & unassuming Harekala Hajabba Saheb on being awarded the prestigious Padma Shri award. He has amply demonstrated to us that service to the most deprived sections of the society goes beyond religion, politics and personal prejudices. May God bless this most remarkable person and may we all be inspired to follow in his footsteps.

Kudos to Modi Government for picking up a ordinary people like Harekala Hajabba, Salumarada Thimmakka without any lobbying or political patronage but purely on identifying the deserving genuine silent achievers for this coveted national award. Mr Modi has proved that an ordinary person without qualifications could become the Prime Minister of this great country and also an ordinary person without any political patronage or lobbying could also get a Government recognition with a fitting award. Let many ordinary people like Hajabba's get recognized for their yeoman service they render to the society in the days to come. Congratulations to Mr Hajabba for his commitment and dedication for the great cause of uplifting his village people through Education.

It is the honor to a true Muslim man who has contributed for the society though being not well educated. I see most of highly qualified and those who talk hours on education system and improvements do not really contribute in reality.......
