Bengaluru, Nov 8: What is the need for Congress leaders to go on a padayatra demanding implementation of the Mekedatu project now, when they did not implement it while in power, asked Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in Bengaluru on Monday.

In a press statement released by the Chief Minister’s office, Bommai said there was no justification or valid reason for the padayatra by the Congress opposition leader in the Assembly and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and State Congress President D K Shivakumar knowing fully well that the matter was pending before the court.

The Chief Minister said the pressure tactics adopted by the Congress party would not work and pointed out that the Congress government took several years to prepare the Detailed Project Report and execute the project without delay.

“Mekedatu project issue is now pending before the court and the State Government is waging a legal battle. The project requires Central Water Commission’s approval and the government is doing its best and making all honest efforts to obtain the clearance,’’ he said expressing confidence that the approval will be received soon.

The State Government will go ahead with the project immediately after receiving the approvals, he declared.

Bommai asserted that the Mekedatu project was an ambitious project of the State Government. The government will implement the project as soon as all the hurdles are cleared, he declared.

Mekedatu project had nothing to do with any vote bank or the community that Congress caters for. Its obvious they were quiet all the while.

But still that is not suffice. they should use properly on other matters as well... Mr CM, please stop digging up the history to hide your government’s non performance as is the culture of the ruling government at the top. Do something for the people when you are in power.
