Bengaluru, Nov 9: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has promised to sanction a grant of Rs 10 crore for the construction of Kannada Bhavan in Goa.

The Chief Minister made the promise when a delegation of Akhila Goa Kannada Mahasangha office-bearers called on him under the leadership of BJP National General Secretary C T Ravi at his Home Office of Krishna in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

Bommai appreciated the efforts of Kannadigas, who have settled in Goa and have still nurtured their love for the mother tongue and Kannada culture. Most of the settlers in Goa from the State are from northern Karnataka region.

The Kannadigas in Goa do not have their own building to carry out their activities and therefore the State Government is ready to help in the construction of the Kannada Bhavan. The Chief Minister asked the office-bearers and officials to submit a detailed project report on the proposed building.

Goa Kannada Mahasangha Honorary President Siddanna Meti and other office-bearers thanked the Chief Minister for his assurance of support.

Meeting on Development Projects in Shivamogga

The Chief Minister later held a meeting on the development projects in Shivamogga district.

BJP’s Shivamogga MP B Y Raghavendra, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary N Manjunath Prasad, Social Welfare Department Additional Chief Secretary Nagambikadevi, Chief Minister’s Secretary V Ponnuraj, Shivamogga district in charge Secretary S Selvakumar, Tourism Department Director B Sindhu Roopesh, Shivamogga district Deputy Commissioner Shivakumar and other senior officials participated in the meeting.

Whom are we trying to impress by building a Kannada Bhavan in Goa? In Goa, there is not much of Kannada, Hindi, Goan, Konkani etc, they are all Goans, irrespective of their religious or regional origin. Do not try to divide Goa now as Kannadigas, Konkanas & Goans. Is this a vote bank drama now in Goa? If yes or no, you can not waste our tax payers money to please someone who is not connected to our Karnataka Govt & our state people. I am sure Goa can manage it's infrastructure by themselves. Let our CM Manage our own state with infrastructure we need and we deserve.!! Why don' t you build a Kannada / Konkani / Tulu Bhavan in Mangalore - DK for us ?

As a long term resident of Goa I can tell you that it will not be in good taste with Goans who have a very anti kannadiga attitude due to the influx of labor from north Karnataka

Promote Konkani and Tulu in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, rather than Kannada in Goa which has a rich culture and grassroots can raise their own funds for building a bhavan.
