Udupi: 45-year-old Andhra Pradesh-origin man drowns at Malpe harbour

Udupi, Nov 9: A man from Andhra Pradesh drowned at Malpe harbour on Tuesday November 9.

The deceased is identified as Garikana Dhanayya (45).

It is gathered that Garikana accidentally slipped from a boat. Some people threw a rope at him in order to save him, but he failed to catch it. Though he could be saved, no one got down into the water as desilting operations were being carried out and there was a risk of losing life if anyone would get into the water.

Ishwar Malpe got received the information, rushed to the harbour. But he could not save Garikana.

Later, Garikana was fished out from the water full of silt to the harbour dock.

Unfortunately, there were many bystanders when the incident took place, but none could make an effort to rescue Garikana.

The mortal remains are kept in the mortuary at district hospital Ajjarkad.

A case has been registered at Malpe station.
