Mangaluru: Nandini milk booths refuse to accept payments made in coins

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 10: Milk is an essential commodity the people purchase on a daily basis. Of late, it is learnt, Nandini milk booths are refusing to accept payments made in the form of coins. This has angered many customers.

Almost every family, either rich or poor, goes to the milk booths. Some carry changes to buy milk while others take some currency notes along with coins of exact value. The milk distributors, for the last two days, have begun saying that they would accept currency notes but not the coins.

On November 4, an official circular was issued with the signature of the in-charge assistant manager of the finance department of Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers Union in which the distributors have been asked not to accept coins. The circular mentions that Axis Bank has been refusing to accept the coins which are received out of sale proceeds of milk distribution route and sale of milk products. Therefore, the staff of the distribution network have been asked to accept only the currency notes and remit the same to the union.

Based on this circular, the dealers have begun to refuse coins. The people are unable to find out why the coins are refused. In some other places where other things too are dealt with, the sellers accept coins.

Sheikh Muhammed Sawad from Kottara says that Nandini milk booths are not accepting ten rupee coins. The operators orally told him that other coins can be accepted. He says that refusing a coin, which is a legal tender issued by the government, is tantamount to demonetisation and asked the district administration to take the matter seriously.

President of Dakshina Kannada district Cooperative Milk Producers Union, Raviraj Hegde Kodavoor, said he is not aware about the circular to refuse coins in milk booths. He said that the currency issued by the government cannot be refused by anyone and therefore circular if it was issued, is wrong. He promised to take up the issue with the officials.

They can exchange the coins with any local shops. But how can they refuse. When there is no competition for a product such things happen.

Tea and coffee taste just as good without milk. It takes only a couple of days to get used to. So, go vegetarian and save the planet! A bonus: your health improves as well.

I just understand how an organisation like Nandini and a private sector bank like Axis Bank refuse a national currency? Isn't it considered a national disgrace ? If this trend continues, then every bódy will get their own rules regarding currency... This is an offense and the people refusing the currency coins by the reserve Bank of India should be arrested and tried under Traitor Act..

El En Tea mangalore,,quite possible because of virus infection. But there are methods to get rid of it.Bank or booths can put money in boiling water pot,or in disinfection lotion.First of all Particular bank has to explain the reason for it in front of press. So that others can understand their policy. Now people shouldnt make big issue and ask the bank the reason for it.second what costs the milk one liter?full rupee or in chillare they say?when they ask in full rupee and dont give back rest it is a loss to people.let them clear .we recieve and gives back rest money in coins without problem here. They have their own validity.when one argues ,that rest money in coins not to receive in coins, for the sake of covid ,what about other things if you buy?For example fish?

Since 2014 govt laws do not apply to govt but only for public. Basically govt itself doesn’t know what they are doing. Only if a person is BJP blind bhakth then clean chit all the way. Rest is immaterial.
