Mangaluru: Woman pleads for release of husband arrested in Saudi Arabia

Mangaluru, Nov 12 (IANS): A woman has pleaded with the government of India for the release of her husband, who has been arrested by the authorities in Saudi Arabia.

She also said that her husband has been targeted for putting up a patriotic message on social media.

Kavitha, a resident of Barnakatte near Mangaluru, claimed on Thursday that some miscreants have created a fake social media account of her husband Shailesh Kumar and posted derogatory messages against the king of Saudi Arabia and Islam.

Shailesh

Shailesh has been working in Saudi Arabia for 20 years now.

"In February last year, my husband had put up a patriotic message on his social media account, following which he had received a threat call from a stranger. The stranger had warned Shailesh to withdraw the social media account and if he didn't, they wouldn't allow him to be in Saudi Arabia. Taking no chances, Shailesh had withdrawn his account," she said.

After a few days, the miscreants created a fake social media account in Shailesh's name and uploaded derogatory messages against Islam and the King of Saudi Arabia, hatching a conspiracy to get him arrested, she said.

BJP leader Jitendra Kottari said that Shailesh is in a Saudi prison for one-and-a-half years now after the police arrested him without any investigation.

The Indian organisations in Saudi Arabia are also silent on the issue, he said.

The matter has been brought to the notice of BJP state President Nalin Kumar Kateel, who is also a local MP. Though Kateel has written a letter to the External Affairs Ministry, there has been no progress in the matter.

The government should take all the necessary steps for Shailesh's release, Kottari said.

Please madam don't you worry, I am sure he will come home soon and this issue will be resolved immediately when the Honorable representatives from India remind the Saudi Authorities that "That as peaceful people and in the interest of peace he should be released". When that is said I am confident that he will released right away. The Saudi's will thank us for reminding them of this great virtue they all have, they may also reward Shailesh with a nice fat Saudi Riyal cheque, and apologize for keeping him prison for so long.

What stone age laws you are talking about. There if one breaks the law justice is delivered in time and one doesn't need to wait for 25 - 30 years. There are more than 1.5 million Indians work in Saudi Arabia and as a result million families in India are benefitted . As a percentage of this work force how many cases has been reported. If you follow their laws and work peacefully no one bothers to trouble you. Meanwhile, look at our own democrazy........!!!!! how laws get twisted and how justice is delivered for the rich, powerful and the common man.

in these days of social media , raising a alarm after one and half year is something to think off , i am sure that Saudi police would have matched the ip address from were these messages were posted , following which the arrest have been done , there is no tolerance policy towards crime committed by expats in gulf countries , if the said story is true hope hes released soon , but this story seems fishy to me as many such cases are recorded previously

Thousands of Hindus & Christians working here & they don’t have any problems except a few. Arab countries are not democratic one, unlike India. And of course, we are here to earn bread why we need all these politics? Does any politician feed you? No, they just do it for their benefits. So be cool & concentrate on your own work. Everything will be alright.

Its very obvious from the 'stranger's call and the miscreants who created it . Its the handy work of some Indians itself who have fed and provoked the authorities that Shailesh has posted something that hurts their religious sentiments. Infact the same incident had happened in Kuwait a couple of years back for a function that was organized. Some were jailed and eventually released. These Desi groups who are into this cannot create such 'instances' in India after the fall of Khangress as nobody listens to their xhit now. Any ways I hope Shailesh is released if he is innocent.

He was working in KSA for 20 years as per news. For sure he will know th rules and regulations there, what to talk and what to talk in the holy land of most peaceful. He should be a real fool of highest order, if he has to sit in KSA soil and talk anything negative of the Kingdom or their religion. Even unpad gawars will know that much. Its not India . For sure something is fishy here, There are many cases like this. Someone created a page or message, then tags the local authorities, Police , intirior ministry etc. In the peaceful land its Guilty until Proven Innocent.

Could you also view in the same sphere without targeting real things. Do you mean people who are working in Gulf not posting any derogatory messages on our nation and supreme leaders...?? Better behave decently before doing remark on anybody.

Everytime someone is arrested in such cases, later it becomes hacked account. The Cyber Police in this part of the world is very competent even to pinpoint the mobile number and right location from where the message has been sent. People.should avoid farwording hate messages in social media.

I have noticed that several old and middle aged persons spend disproportionate time on social media. It adds practically no value to life, financial or psychological gratification. I think the people are worried of being forgotten and seek attention by choosing sides on avoidable online battles. One could save time and trouble by closing their Facebook account. For flaunting woke patriotism, there's always armed forces (which they won't join) on one end or social services in the other end.

Don't you know US president Donald Trump's Twitter account was permanently blocked on January 8th when he was still in the office?. Instead of remaining glued to Republic TV , 24×7, do watch CNN, NBC, CBS, BBC etc...and see how law politicians are taken to task without mincing any words. ಟಾಂಟ್ರೆ ವಾ , setting DK on Fire etc will sound like melodious music comparatively.

Though if he has deleted his account and another account was done by somebody else, with even more derogatory msg, it must be investigated and justice shud be done. I had worked in Saudi for a good amount of years. Their Police are not like Indian Police. Before putting anybody in Jail, they ensure that the culprit had commited the crime. In this case also surely Saudi police have eastbalished something which proves that this gentleman had excessed that so called fake account thru his own sim/handset and that is validated by Saudi telecome or any other service provider he is using. SO BE CAREFUL WITH SAUDI POLICE
