Kadaba, Nov 13: In an eight years old case pertaining to cheating a girl after promising to perform her marriage, the court of the second additional civil judge and JMFC court here has delivered a judgement through which all the four accused have been held not guilty and hence absolved of the charges. Those who have been found not guilty are Pradeep, Shibu, Prasad P K and Rukmini.

First accused in the case, Pradeep, had visited the house of Sumitra along with elder brother Prasad P K, mother Rukmini and brother-in-law Shibu, on December 27, 2012. It was alleged that rings were exchanged in the presence of about 200 people, engagement was performed, and it was decided to hold the marriage on May 12, 2013 at Kollur Goddess Mookambika temple.

Sumitra and others had printed marriage invitation cards which were distributed to relatives and neighbours. Thereafter the accused reportedly refused to be a part of this marriage and escaped from discussing the matter. Pradeep went to Bengaluru after seeking a transfer from his Mangaluru office to Bengaluru. Sumitra thereafter filed a complaint that the accused who promised to conduct her marriage had cheated her by failing to meet the promise. Kadaba police, who registered the first information report, investigated the case and filed a charge sheet.

The court which conducted the hearing, examined 12 out of 13 witnesses. Ten documents were produced on behalf of the prosecution. After hearing final arguments of both the lawyers, judge of the court, Venkatesh N, came to the conclusion that the prosecution had failed to prove beyond any reasonable doubt about the charges levelled in the case and acquitted all the accused named in the charge sheet.

Advocate Mahesh Kaje, had appeared in the case on behalf of the accused.
