High court seeks report on withdrawal of criminal cases against MPs, MLAs

Bengaluru, Nov 18 (IANS): The Karnataka High Court has sought a detailed report in connection with dropping of cases against the sitting and former MLAs and MPs from the state.

The court on Wednesday directed the Registrar General to obtain information from the Special Court for Peoples Representatives on how many cases against the sitting and former MPs/MLAs have been withdrawn since September 16, 2020.

The bench headed by Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi looked into the PIL petition taken up on the directions of the Supreme Court regarding the pending criminal cases against sitting as well as former legislators.

Amicus curiae (someone who is not a party to a case assists a court by offering information, insight that has bearing on issues in the case) Aditya Sondhi, submitted to the bench that, the High Court had ordered the government on August 26 to submit the information regarding withdrawal of cases against legislators.

Likewise, the Supreme Court has also directed the Registrar General to get information on pending cases after September 16, 2020 against MLAs and MPs from the special court, he said.

Following which the High Court bench passed a directive to gather information regarding pending and withdrawal of criminal cases against the leaders in the state.

The court adjourned the matter to January 17, 2022.

Modi before the 2014 elections assured the people that he will request the Supreme Court to establish fast track courts and fast track all criminal cases against all law makers. Seven years have elapsed and UP has withdrawn all cases against Mr Bisht the Yogi. No Lokpal has been appointed. Naa Kaunga Naa Khulauga. Everyone is making Hay while the lotus Blooms and Corruption is rampant across the country with the BJP encouaraging all corrupt practices and providing safe haven to such people to remain in power and dislodge elected Govt and subvert Democracy. Hope the High Court will restore all the criminal cases and fast track them to cleanse our political system.

Law is above all and is unbiased. So, if Court is considering withdrawal of cases against former and sitting MLAs & MPs, then what happens to those many, who are jailed for no fault of theirs and are undergoing punishment. Most of the times these innocent people are victimized and being made scapegoat by people in power of so called powerful people. So, is the Law of the Land only for us average citizens ? Are these people above the law? As per my knowledge many of these people have criminal cases against them? Why can't our Judiciary System take action against them? This will set a precedent for others to be aware and careful. The very fact you are saying there are cases, it proves that there are pending cases against our leaders. So why spare them?
