Udupi: Illegal transportation of sand – Truck, driver, owner surrender to police

Udupi, Nov 26: Udupi, Nov 26: The truck which had not reported to the city police station after being intercepted for carrying a load of sand illegally on Thursday November 25, surrendered to the police on Friday November 26.

The truck was spotted by the office bearers of district truck owners’ association and the matter was reported to the police. The truck driver was asked to take the truck to the city police station by the police constable. However, he did not heed to the instructions of the police constable and took the truck to Padu Alevoor and got the sand unloaded.

According to the details of the incident, a citizen called up the police station and informed on the morning of Thursday, that a truck is transporting sand illegally on Korangrapady-Alevoor road. When the personnel from city police station approached near Manasa bus stand, they saw a tipper truck parked and five to six men were speaking to the driver.

On checking, it was noticed that the truck carried two different registration number plates in front and back of the vehicle bearing KA 19 D 1684 and KA 19 D 1685. The vehicle was carrying sand. On inquiry, the driver said that his name is Yallappa Jalapura of Bagalkot origin. When the public were having altercation with the truck driver, the police constable asked the driver to bring the tipper to the police station. However, the driver pushed the constable and pulled his collar and took the vehicle to Padu Alevoor and escaped.

A case in this regard is filed on the driver for interrupting conduct of duty of policeman in the city police station.

    Sand transportation becomes illegal only when it was caught (when the officers are not paid the demanded money). Otherwise it is legal........otherwise how the construction goes on without sand...!!!!!????

    In Mangalore also it is better to check this Garbage carrying from house to house truck, Some are Kerala regiestration numbers are in operation. Our traffic and RTO must check the papers. If it's as per records no problem.

    Now they will get a special bail saying 2 different number plate was spelling mistake nd human error, if not a non-bailable offence! Jai India!
