Mangalore: Karnataka Coast Gets Light Rains

Mangalore, Nov 20: Several places in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts received some rains on Friday November 19. Places like Beltangady and Uppinangady received normal rains in the afternoon, while Puttur experienced only a drizzle. Bantwal and Vittal got rains with thunder, with Sullia getting light rains. The city received only light showers for a brief period in the evening, although cloudy weather was experienced since Friday evening.

In comparison, Udupi district received heavier rains. Karkala and Kundapur taluks got good rains with thunder and lightning. The headmaster, Damodar Devadiga, and eight students of Hanejaddu lower primary school in Hengavalli village of Kundapur taluk suffered shocks due to lightning that hit their school at around 4 pm. While the injuries suffered by the headmaster are severe, the students suffered hearing problems. All of them were admitted into Halady hospital for treatment. Generators of two hotels in Someshwar suffered damages in the lightning, while two dogs died. Wiring and electronic equipments of several houses were damaged.

A release from the meteorological department said that during the period till Sunday morning, the coast and a few places in the southern hinterlands, as also a couple of places in northern hinterlands might experienced rains.
