Hebri (Karkala), Nov 21 (DHNS): Upset over her sons abandoning agriculture, 78-year old mother of Karkala legislator H Gopala Bhandari allegedly committed suicide at her residence in Hebri near Karkala on Saturday.
Girija Bhandari jumped into a well near her residence. The incident came to light by 4 pm, said the police. Her another son Rajesh Bhandari, in his complaint, has stated that Girija, who was passionate about agriculture, was upset after the agriculture land was left uncultivated.
She was also worried about delay in her children’s marriage. She is survived by five sons and two daughters. Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily, Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes, Higher Education Minister V S Acharya and other legislators have mourned Girija.
