Kundapur, Dec 6: Vishwa Hindi Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal (BD) Byndoor unit staged protests at Shiroor toll plaza on Monday December 6 against the highway contractors who dragged cattle after tying it behind a towing vehicle.

VHP Byndoor convener Sudhakar Shetty Nelyadi said that the company that has taken over the contract of four lane highway is not functioning properly. “Therefore, people are anguished. The dead cattle also should be disposed of properly. If the street lights and roads are not repaired soon, violent protests will be held in the future,” he said.

Bajrang Dal district president Sridhar Bijoor said that more than what is stipulated is being collected as charges at Shiroor toll gate. “It should be set right as soon as possible, failing which various pro Hindu organizations will stage protests fasting in front of Shiroor Toll plaza. Suitable service should be provided to people,” he said.

Bajrang Dal Byndoor unit president Jagadish Kollur said that respecting the cow is the symbol of Hindu culture. “Cattle that die on the road should be respected properly,” he said.

Bajrang Dal secretary Srinivas Mudoor, taluk panchayat former member Pushparaj Shetty, district BJP morcha chief secretary Sharath Kumar Shetty Uppunda, Shiroor gram panchayat member Ravindra Shetty Armakki, Prafulla Kakade, Sudesh Shetty, Kundapur DySP Srikanth, Byndoor police circle inspector Santhosh Anand Kaikini, police station inspector Pavan Nayak, Hindu organizations leaders and activists were present.

A memorandum was handed over later to Byndoor tahsildar Shobhalaxmi S H and head of national highway contractors.

It may be recalled, the carcass of a cow that died in a road accident near Shiroor toll gate was tied by the contracting company staff to the towing vehicle and dragged on Sunday. Hindu Jagarana Vedike Byndoor taluk president Rajesh Acharya, Sri Rama Sene’s Subrahmanya, Prashanth Moily and Vedanath Byndoor have lodged a police complaint in Byndoor police station in this connection.

Two staff members of the company were summoned to the police station. The officers of the company too have provided explanation and apologised for the incident in the police station saying that they did so as the cow was heavy and could not be lifted. Byndoor police station inspector Pavan Nayak is investigating.
