Bengaluru, Dec 7: Karnataka’s premier private Deemed to be University, the CHRIST (Deemed to be University), is set have its new School of Architecture Building costing over Rs 25 crore at its sprawling Kengeri campus with State-of-Art facilities for architectural education and research.
Chancellor of the University Rev Fr (Dr) Paul Achandy, CMI, who is also the Rector of the Dharmaram College, will be blessing and declaring open the new building on Wednesday.
The spacious new buildinghouses state-of-art design studios, classrooms, labs, workshops, library, student council room, exhibition spaces, conference halls, and café. The labs intend to facilitate interdisciplinary research and consultancy in the realms of geomatics, climate-responsive architecture, augmented and virtual reality, advance material research, 3D printing, audio-video recording and editing studio consoles, fostering interdisciplinary curriculum across traditional research boundaries.
The building with most modern facilities and equipment demonstrates the University’s priority in developing and transforming the pursuits of design thinking, design learning, and design practice for the foreseeable future, said Rev Fr (Dr) Abraham V M, Vice Chancellor.
The project intends to transform the institutional realm of Architecture and Urban Studies at CHRIST University, Fr Abraham said pointing out that the 80 acres sprawling green campus at Kengeri has grown significantly since 2010 with its ambitious green vision and sustainable goals for campus development.
Leveraged on the University’s more than 50 years’ legacy of, pursuit for excellence and its transformation through creative and empathetic involvement with the society, School of Architecture CHRIST responds to challenges of inclusivity, equity & access to education while offering B. Arch., M. Arch. and Ph.D. programs.
Approved by the Council of Architecture, its integrated design curriculum intends to understand Architecture as a cultural production unravelling its deep connection with the environment, society, and material, Fr Abraham explained.
The building is a blend of the contemporary vocabulary of architectural elements with the modern appropriation of traditional elements. It towers to over 25mts with a lightweight steel roof covering an area of 1.4 lakh square feet.
The University proudly acknowledges the Architectural design services offered by CHRIST Design Consultancy Cell led by Dr Anitha Suseelan, Structural Design by M/s VS Consultants, Bangalore, and the Construction and Project Management by M/s Ambica Construction and contractors, Bangalore. This exclusively designed barrier-free building harvests rainwater, of both roof and site surface runoff. It adheres to the infrastructure requirement stated by the Council of Architecture India, in terms of facilities and area available.
The entire building demonstrates the University’s priority in developing and transforming the pursuits of design thinking, design learning and design practice for the foreseeable future, Fr Abraham added.
