Bengaluru: Christian delegation meets CM, appeals to drop anti-conversion bill

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Dec 11: A Christian delegation met chief minister (CM) Basavaraj Bommai on Friday December 10 and appealed not to introduce anti-conversion bill.

The meeting took place at the Race Course residence of the CM. The delegation was led by well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist Ronald Colaco. Former MLA J R Lobo, former MLC Ivan D’Souza and Congress president Radhakrishna were in the team. The team also appealed to the CM to resolve the issues faced by the Christian community in Karnataka. The delegation also sought action on the church attacks that are taking place in the state.

Speaking to the media after meeting the CM, Ronald Colaco said, “The ratio of our community has reduced in the past 10 years. Even then, propaganda is made that Christians are enticing others and getting them converted to Christianity. This is not right. We should be allowed to live in a dignified manner in society. We have submitted an appeal to stop the attack on the Christian community. The CM has assured us to resolve all issues.”

It is said that this meeting has taken place as there are discussions that there is a possibility of presenting the anti-conversion bill in the winter session of the assembly.

There are many other issues rather than concentrating on anti conversion issues. Each citizen of the country knows what is better for him whiohever religion he likes he can practise. When we can eat what we like why cant we worship whom we like. If the government is not feeding us why do they tell us who is our God!

Nothing will happen. This CM is doing what the duo at the center is dictating and that is all. When there is no sanity among the rulers (I call them rulers as they dont represent the voters in the right way), trying to appeal to them or requesting them to stop the harassments will only make them even more hardcore. There is no sensibility left with current thugs ruling us. However, God will never shut his eyes. It is a matter of time before He will pull the rug from right under their feet. Someone made a comment, why we are so afraid? We Catholics are not afraid at all as we are God fearing and highly educated and respectable people. What amazes me is, the rapidly sinking Christian population of just 2% shaking the Hindu faith to such an extent that they feel, +85% will all convert to Christianity, especially during BJP rule. If it happens, it would be grate, as I am sure India will turn a corner and will become highly developed, respected Country within no time.

First of all - Who said anti conversion law is against Christian’s? It’s against converting from one religion to other under coercion . Secondly - If nobody is converted to Christianity by force, why Christian community is against the bill? What is there to worry for them?

Hareesh, Mangalore; I am telling you, it is against Christian community. 2% Christians have become the thorn to the jealous fringe groups. They do not want to open schools , Educational Institutions in the non developed villages fearing, the Educational mafia, will loose their biz. It is Educational mafia, hospital mafia are partly behind this in the name of Conversion tactics.

Best is let them hate the Christianity but Jesus told his followers love your enemies more than yourself and forgive them. We Christian's are stronger than your whole majority population and will always stronger because Jesus is our master is the king of the whole world. Everything belongs to him and we are his children and he takes care of us.

Let us stop pleading and appealing. The only language that this communal government understands is the langusge of electoral defeat. Let us openly and unitedly campaign against this ruling party and defeat its candidates. The agitating farmers saw success only when the bye elections pointed to a crushing defeat of the ruling party. Let us vow to throw out this evil government with every means at our disposal.

Sorry and sad state of affairs Many of us have studied in Christian schools Institutions and many friends .. more than family .. Today to see a petition by leading members from this great community .. there are no words .. All we can say .. saner counsels have to prevail .. A few mis guided .. vested interests are playing a very nasty communal game .. Voters from across communities have to see through this game ... Strongly condemn polarised politics.. .. upholding all high values ... and cherishing the great services made by The catholics .. across state and India .. By putting down some one don’t try to become superior.. All are contributing ultimately in nation building...

Dear HENRY MISQUITH, india, But in case of dispute, it has to be under the jurisdiction of a court of law. Anti-conversion bill is purely about that. Not every problem can be solved, by Priest/Maulvi/Purohit. If so, Courts would have been obsolete around the world by now.

I do not support a parallel judiciary of the Priest/Maulvi/Purohit. But, let us be practical. A judgement by Priest/Maulvi/Purohit is passed within one month of taking the complaint to them. Indian courts take TWENTY years for many of the cases. There are lakhs of under-trials throughout India because the courts have no time to deal with them. Or they are too poor to hire the right lawyers. So, for the justice system to have any effect in India, at least 50% of the CIVIL cases must be passed to the Priest/Maulvi/Purohit as the FIRST LEVEL of legal system. Let the courts focus on the CRIMINAL cases. India then will then catch up with the FOURTH WORLD.

The law clearly states that either police or authorities can handle cases. These so called authorities are nothing but goons who will miss use the law and try creating communal tensions. We are not afraid of the law but for our community's safety.
