Bengaluru: Serving of eggs to school children continues to evoke controversy

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Dec 13: Primary and secondary education minister B C Nagesh, clarified that he has never pressured the students to consume eggs, which are proposed to be served as part of the midday meal, in the schools.

Speaking to media persons on Sunday December 12, he said that the children are suffering on account of malnutrition and that the central government has introduced this scheme to improve the health conditions of the students. He pointed out that experts have suggested adding eggs to the menu of the school children to improve protein intake. He said that bananas are also being given, and that the food that has protein has been chosen for the children.

Minister B C Nagesh

The minister asked the people and the parents not to be panicky about the Omicron variant of the coronavirus. He pointed out that out of 1.2 crore children, only 102 have so far suffered from coronavirus infection and promised that the government will take all precautionary measures.

A video of girl student, addressing the students protesting under the leadership of the Students Federation of India at Gangavathi in Koppal district where she is seen condemning the Swamijis who have been insistent on replacing eggs with bananas in the schools, has become viral. She says that the Swamiji have no authority to advise the concerned not to eat eggs. "We will eat eggs and visit the Maths thereafter," she is heard saying.

The girl student says that the students of Kalyana Karnataka region suffer from malnutrition and the government has come forward to provide eggs to address this issue. "If eggs are not given, we will die. Do you want us to die, or would you opt for the alternative of supplying eggs? We are studying in government schools because of poverty, but you people do not understand. We are ready to consume tow eggs every day and also to consume bananas," she says. This video has become viral in the social media.

KMF Nandini is already preparing flavored milk and marketing it. There are other products too from KMF stable. KMF has enough milk and its derivatives to be distributed to School Children. KMF was not able to market its own products during Covid Lockdown and stopped procuring milk from Farmers then. Mangalore KMF gave extra milk to consumers and drew criticism for not giving at least a glass of milk extra instead of extra 20 ml only. Our state has enough milk and its derivatives to feed all children. Neighboring states to support their farmers have procured eggs from them . We have neglected our state farmers and creating wealth for farmers of neighbouring states .Hope this government understands our farmers plight and help them by procuring milk. Our farmers too may get income through out the year, buy more cows and lead a decent living. Unless this government takes this matter positively , farmers in this state may not prosper nor the state GDP.

The poultry industry is behind this fake "malnutrition" story. Give the children vegetables. No controversy, better health for children and better health for the environment.

Agreed.Do not divide the students (divide and rule was a British policy). Give high protein veg food to all students. Farmers will benefit.

Mangalurian, do visit some interior remote places or visit government schools and you'll realize whether malnutrition is fake or real. Just because you were born with a silver spoon in mouth doesn't mean everyone was. Eggs have more protein and calcium per gram than any other food or vegetable. You will need to provide much more quantity of pulses in order to serve the same amount of protein.

Once When I showed surprised when I came to know my bhramin friends ate eggs they said this "From what else do you expect us to gain proteins from? I have come across two of them who have personally told me this. Please do not mix religion and governance. If you do not want to eat please do force these poor children with your egotistical ideas.
