Bengaluru, Dec 16: Karnataka will get Rs 8,298 crore for upgrading its power infrastructure under the Centre’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), Energy and Kannada Minister Sunil Kumar informed the State Legislative Assembly in Belagavi on Thursday.

The minister said the power distribution infrastructure, especially in northern Karnataka, is expected to get a boost with the funds given under the above scheme.

The allocation of funds would begin soon after a high-level meeting convened by the Centre on Friday. Officials concerned from Karnataka had already left for Delhi to attend the meeting, the minister said.

The RDSS aims at improving the quality, reliability and affordability of power supply through financially strong and operationally efficient distribution system besides reducing energy losses.

He expressed confidence that power infrastructure and quality in North Karnataka, particularly for Irrigation Pump sets, would improve after the implementation of the scheme.

The GESCOM was planning to set up 42 power stations with a capacity of 33 kW each and 13 stations with a capacity of 66 kV each under the above central scheme, the minister explained.

I had good expectation from this minister after the debacle of DV sadnanda gowda ,Shobakka ,Angara ,Rajesh Naik etc ..DVS got major portfolio of Railways ,he could have declared MAngalore Railway as a major zone ,That did not happen ,all other local Ministers are mere dead rubbers ..not working for their regions progress ,but only talk of other regions .. ITs Ok ..but you need to see what you have contributed to the local development too.
