Tumakuru, Dec 20: Before the Datta Peeta Yatra was flagged off, on the controversial issue of leading a procession, former minister and BJP leader, Sogadu Shivanna, tried to assault Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) district president, G K Srinivas.
On Sunday December 19, a Yatra by the Datta Peeta pilgrims was organized from here to the Datta Peeta at Chikkamagaluru. It was decided to go there in buses. Before that, a procession was planned to be taken out. Srinivas prepared to send the pilgrims by buses as there was no permission to hold the procession. But Sogadu Shivanna insisted that a profession has to be taken from the townhall circle to Gubbi gate. On this issue, there was altercation between the two leaders as Shivanna stood his ground on taking out a procession. On this issue, after an argument, Shivanna became very angry at G K Srinivas, pushed him and was about to attack him, it is said. For some time, Shivanna held protest with the support of Tanganalli Swamiji and some other religious leaders. Finally, 20 leaders and Sadhus were allowed to go in a procession.
At the end, Sogadu Shivanna and G K Srinivas, who fought on the issue of Datta Peeta yatra, did not go to the Datta Peeta.
