London, Dec 8 (IANS) British comedian Russell Brand is reportedly set to co-produce and star in a new movie about a veteran alcoholic British soccer player who moves to Texas.
"He's had the idea about how such a wayward soccer star would go down in the States and he knows he'll have fun playing a character like this one," contactmusic.com quoted a source as saying.
According to the report, Brand's character is based on a boyhood hero Frank McAvennie, who played for West Ham Football Club in London and was known for his bad boy behaviour.
"Russell loved watching McAvennie from the terraces as a kid but was also interested in his off-field behaviour," the source added.
Brand's womanising character in the movie will be sentenced to community service and ordered to coach the local high school soccer team but friends of the star believe he will have to brush up on his sporting skills in order to make the film believable.
"Russell will have to improve his footie skills though. He's never hidden the fact he's not the greatest person to have ever played the game," said the source.
