Mangalore: Konkani and Tulu Playwright, Percy Urwa, No More

Mangalore, Dec 10: Renowned Konkani and Tulu playwright, Percy D'Souza, popularly known as ‘Percy Urwa’, breathed his last on Friday December 10 morning after a brief illness. He was 60.
Husband of Joyce D'Souza, who is a famous singer of yesteryears, Percy was very active in Konkani movement in 70s and 80s. He was working for New Mangalore Port Trust for the past many years, and was about to retire in next year.
As a playwright, he had authored a number of Konkani and Tulu plays. Some of them are, `Ghaddai Pikla', `Cherko Zala', `Pepere Pepe Dum Dum', `Ijju Meri Duje', `Tendlyak Biyo Chodd', `Tuje Pras Mhojem Laamb', (all Konkani), `Parabag Popikala', `Jaru, Jagrate' and `Circus' (all Tulu).
His play, ‘Circus’, was staged in Town Hall in the city last year.
Funeral will be held on Saturday, December 11 at the St Dominic Church, Ashoknagar, at 3 pm and the burial ceremony will be held at Urwa cemetery.
