Advani Arrives for Pejavar Swamiji's B'day, Recalls Fond Memories

Udupi, Dec 11: Senior BJP leader and former deputy prime minister L K Advani on Saturday December 11 said that over the past one year, his political burden had drastically reduced, which had enabled him to travel more.
He is on a visit to attend Pejavar Swamiji's 80th birthday celebrations as well as to participate in a BJP convention.
Clarifying that he had come to Udupi not to give any political speech but to recollect his memories of an earlier visit, he said, "This year has been good for me due to the reduced political burden which enabled me to travel from Gangotri to Rameshwar. During this travel Sri Vishveshateertha Swamiji of Udupi Pejavar Mutt had invited me to visit his hostel for backward classes students at Kukkikatte near here which I accepted with the duel purpose of also participating in the 80th birthday celebration of the Swamiji."
Advani said that Karnataka state under its first BJP rule in south India had made an impressive progress and hoped that over the next two years, it would achieve further progress.
He said that he had a special attachment with Karnataka, especially Bangalore and Udupi after his 19-month stay in jail in Bangalore during the emergency period. He had a soft spot for Udupi which won in the town municipal elections for the first time 42 years ago as the then-Jan Sangh in the country and had maintained its victory since then except for a few years, he said.
He called upon the elected municipal and panchayat members of the state and especially of Udupi to become role models with their selfless service by responding to the needs of the people.
He stressed that the role of elected representatives such as municipalities and panchayats is more vital than that of elected members of the state legislature or the parliament as they are the ones who have close contact with the people in day-to-day life. These elected members should serve their city, area or the panchayats by catering to the needs of the local people, he added.
Speaking earlier, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa appealed to the people to vote for the BJP in the three coastal districts in the upcoming ZP and TP elections based on the achievements and fulfillment of the people’s aspirations. He said that the government had brought out in book form the details of its achievements over the last two and half years. The books have already been distributed to all political parties, he mentioned, and said that the party had also brought out handouts of its achievements which will be distributed among the public to create awareness on the facts and figures regarding the government's work.
